The 'young man' comment I imagine was used deliberately to put a stopper in our sympathy. 'Child' is a far more impactful word and will make most of us feel a sort of horror that a little boy had a gun and used it. 'Young man' is more in keeping with the US gun attitude of nothing to see here move along.

 I would also add his choice of words (in the moment) is in keeping with a police  chiefs demeanor and training. When speaking (especially in public announcements) they tend to be more reserved and formal. 

Sounded as if he used "young man" simply from a chiefs commanding perspective, perhaps out of deference to the victim(s) and the student respectively. Saying "minor" sounds cold, saying "child" (directly after an incident of this nature) might offend the victims, as it implies an innocence incongruent with attempted murder, and saying "juvenile" has an element of criminal connotation - the chiefs natural choice would be simply to call him "young man" (and like you say above)...

If you listen to the newer community updates by the chief, he emphasizes the word child when speaking of him.

My new prescription reading glasses feel seriously warped, one side touching my cheek and the other  sticking out... took a long  time to get these after ordered (and they  arent even the frame colour I chose), so I don't want to chance returning them... plus it's a whole days journey just to take them for adjustment, so I have to learn to deal with them as is... but my cheek just dont . like . it .

I want to rant about cyclists these dark days that put on a hi viz then completely cover it over with a backpack   Why can't they make hi viz backpacks for cyclists and country road walkers? Or get a larger vest and put it on over your bag.

What about the Feb 6th Public Holiday? I've booked flights to visit friends and family in the UK for the long weekend. Definitely cheering me up through dark January

Unrelated rant: my god can this cold f**k off, it's been two+ weeks and I'm still really struggling. I have two appointments next Thurs so I need it to be gone so I don't have to reschedule...

The following would break the blue arrows, if you wanted to break them.
settings > shields > create custom filters
