Around the Arc de Triomphe it's still priority to those who are joining, so you have to stop on it. It's absolute carnage. We went on a moped tour of Paris and the guide took us round with with the advice to "just go", it was terrifying!

Apparently if you have an accident on the Place de l'Etoile insurance claims are split equally between all parties.  The concept of one person being to blame for the accident goes completely out the window there.

Ha ha, sounds about right!
And I'm sure I've heard before you're not allowed to take hire cars there

The driving in France would scare the bejesus out of you
I very nearly got run over by a police car in Paris once. They weren't chasing anyone or anything like that, they just came barrelling around a corner and ploughed through the pedestrian crossing I was on, which was green for me at the time. The crossing was just beside my hotel and I saw quite a few other cars do the same thing over the next few days. They appear to have a rather relaxed view towards the health and safety of pedestrians.

when i was in paris in the 90's, i learned not to use pedestrian crossings. the painted white lines must not what we irish presume they are, because crossing on them is not advisable. find anywhere else to cross, as its much safer.

well they all passed their test so they do know how it should be done, they just can't be bothered doing it right. Rolleyes
My aunt's doctor cleared her to start driving again today after two months (she broke her arm)... I fear for the population of North Wicklow/South Dublin 😅
She even said herself that she'll need to get back out and 'practice' in the car 🙈🤦‍♀️😳
She has a full licence but I sometimes wonder if the tester just passed her so they wouldn't have to keep seeing her back again 😬🤣
Oh Ari !  That brings back memories

Sounds like a plan for Mr V. Putin esq.
Moan, moan, extreme low bandwidth connection from The Kennel today and for the foreseeable.....no audio or video for Dawg Sad
Bastard bus company insist that you book the bus, but also insist on charging a booking fee to free travel pass users, despite being the only bus serving the route, and that the fee costs more than the actual journey if booked online with the discount they apply for using the online booking system. Fucking annoyed because they hadn't charged in the past, then started charging out of nowhere, then stopped again when bus Éireann stopped running the route, and inexplicably have started charging again this week!

I'm tired.
Ok it's not much of a rant but I'm too tired to say anymore.
Why can you never find a decent tradesman when you need one? Like, these people do know I'm trying to give them money, right? I swear every one I ring is either busy, on holidays, haven't emptied their voice messages in years or fob you off to someone else who you already tried
My computer made an alarming alarm type beeping sound that I haven't heard before.
A noise like that usually means that you will soon be down some money.   Dodgy
My Dad has to change banks. AIB said go online or wait 5 weeks for an appointment. BOI said go online. So we were going to go AIB but person who told him to go online was wrong, as he is a retiree and they don't open those free banking accounts online. So BOI it was. I did his application for him the other weekend. He can't get the banking app working - iphone 8 or higher only (he's on a 7) so ka-ching ahoy 🤦‍♀️ And not just for him, as I will be making an extra trip home this month to sort the new phone and I need diesel 😒

That reminds me....it can be a nightmare for old people dealing with banks if they are not technology-savvy and want to actually talk to people. Of course it's not just banks, it's all the service providers as well.
@ari101  , is your dad thinking of using the BoI app for more than just BoI's version of 2FA  ?

If only for 2FA then their PSK option for this may be more suited to him than a smartphone

( I am unable to find words to describe how terrible BoI have become ... but dont let a grumpy ol' dawg's experience put your Da off them )
@dawg He'd use the app to monitor his transactions mainly. He was happy enough using the basic features on the Ulster Bank one.

@Declan A Walsh He's not the worst with technology once he gets used to it, but these days he finds it hard to learn new things. So we'll stay with an iPhone (which I will have to set up) and I'll get app going for him. Torture for me as I can't stand iPhone and hate using them 🤣
Yes during the start of covid pandemic especially everything being on line was bad for the older generation, we have an uncle not tech savvy has basic phone etc., found it very hard

Toto has to switch banks as well.  Initially she was going for AIB, but due to some glitch it wouldn't allow her do it online.  She contacted them to make an appointment, but heard nothing after 3 weeks.  I called on her behalf to try again and was told it needed to be booked online.  Did that, and six weeks later still nothing.  In the meantime she arranged an appointment with PTSB for today.  AIB called her twice yesterday to see when she wanted to go and see them.

I have to move myself too, but I'm in denial for another while as I've been very happy with KBC the past two years 😅 No other mainstream bank will give me free banking and Cashback on my card purchases...
I'm paying €72 yearly in charges with BOI
I moved from AIB to PTSB a few years back. Fees are €6 a month, but can earn 10c back up to a fiver by using the card, and some small percentage if you have a Sky or SSE direct debit, so you can end up earning money over the €6

Is Permanent TSB not going, closing etc., along with Ulster Bank?
No, it's KBC and Ulster leaving.
PTSB is top of my list for that exact reason (no sky or sse at the moment though) but I read the banking app is crappy 🤣
I also still get a little interest on my savings with KBC, it's not the 3% it was when I set up the account years ago but better than nothing.
Banks are a disgrace, they're not doing enough to help people (particularly elderly people) who are basically having their entire routines around money savings etc ripped up simply because certain banks aren't making enough profit. There's going to be chaos in October when Ulster and KBC leave.

The banks that were bailed out by the government shouldn't have been allowed to close rural branches, we're at the stage now where if you don't live in a city you won't be physically able to go into a bank. They can't staff a rural branch but they can pay out millions in bonuses and dividends to the big shots, go figure.

I find the app is grand, have had no major issues, just occasionally unexpected down time but it's usually fixed pretty quickly. Functionality it's on par with the aib app.

Even if you live in a city it's not great.  Toto had to take a half day yesterday for a 10 minute appointment to open her new account.  Ulster are the only bank who open on Saturday, and none open later than 5pm.  Back in the day at least TSB used to open until 7pm one day a week.  Want foreign currency other than GBP or USD?  That's a hassle and you have to order a week in advance.  Want a bank draft?  You can only have one if it's over EUR 500.  Want to actually speak with someone in your branch?  Good luck with that, does Christmas work for you?  I fully appreciate that online banking has improved a lot of the crappy bits of dealing with banks, but there are times you need to go to a branch, and the services in them have been gradually eroded to the point of them being a joke.
I'm with EBS, who are only open 10-4 and insist you go in to change your address, so I didn't do that

They have an authentication app you need to log in to online banking. I got a new phone and needed to set that up, the only way they'll do it is posting you a code

So unless I take time off work to go in to change my address, I can't get a code and can't use online banking either 🙈

Thank feck for revolut. I've just been keeping a small amount with them and using it for day to day spending, but now that they have a bank licence I may just switch to them completely and hope I don't have any need for cash or cheque transactions

Some post offices in towns also closing and Fridays pension day is a meeting day for some, a chat and a catch up
Post office handy for me is open Saturday mornings Smile  ( maybe they all do this - dunno )

I pay utilities etc thru it 'n other stuff.  Prefer to use it than on-line. It supports a real person who does really useful things.

And that's why I hate going to the post office.  I go in to get a couple of stamps and I get stuck behind someone paying their electricity bill, and a bit off their gas bill, and their M50 tolls, and some stamps, and could they post this parcel to Timbuktu...
Big Grin

Thats part of what I like. Never know who & what you might get to chat with / about.

@Zaph if there a Polo Store near you  ( http://polostores.net/stores/ ) you should pay them a visit

When you have picked out what you want you Q at the cash register...when your turn comes they weigh and price up anything sold per kilo ( mostly fruit & veg )   Big Grin . There is a very good chance of ending up in a long Q   Tongue

Polo stock is aimed at eastern europeans so they have quite a few things that are just not available in ordinary Irish shops. It might be run by a Ukrainian.   When the war started any stock from Russia & Belarus was discounted 50% and not replaced.
I spilt the washing liquid down my trousers trying to put it in the washing machine.  Dodgy

My brain is all over the place. It is one of those days where you can't chill out and stick at one task and you end up running around like a blue arse fly getting stressed and tired.
Ah I hope your day gets better tonight, BB... I had a saturday of irritabillity --- no fun to spend weekends like this.

Now, if only the shingles medicine would kick in, feels like my face is burning off.
