Bollox. I’ve just removed it and will crop. Lol
Party at Strawbs’!!!!

(before carpet is laid as it’ll need replacing after party anyway for sure)

Also, carpets are very expensive, particularly hall, stairs and landing as it could be a half day job if not more.

Also, price of smoothedge as trebled because if wood prices increase and you're probably buying underlay for your carpet.

The quote was 630 on a 19.99 per sq MT carpet. Divide that and you get just over 31 sq mt.

I calculate 18 sq mt (rounded up) based on picture.

How do I insert a photo rather than attach it?

I'm afraid I am useless to you Strawb but I do know that carpet fitting can be an expensive job alright.

I just did some crazy rough calcs and got to 32sq m if they're discarding all waste

The main landing in 5.2m
The stairs need (175mm + 250mm)*8 + 1m = 2.7m

If they take them from separate cuts that's 7.9m
On a 4m roll that's 31.6 sq m

But ... I'd have thought the landing and the stairs could be cut from the same piece, as they're less than 4m wide combined.
That should make it 5.2m length needed, or 20.8 sq m

But I'm no expert, just like a maths puzzle!

I’m sitting at the kitchen table wondering exactly how much the fella that just quoted me for new hall and landing carpet is taking the piss. I’m calculating 13 square metres of piss but that’s for you lot to decide.

Just quoted 640 euro for carpet of 19.99 a square metre that includes fitting.

This is the diagram. The longest section on left of picture is top landing. You turn right and go down 8 steps onto a mid landing then turn left to go down 4 more steps to the hall. The steps have a rise of 175mm and depth of 250mm (approx).

How many square metres of carpet would you think I need? Width of a carpet on the roll is 4-5 metres.

I'm on it !

That’s exactly what I think they’ve done, EN. They’ve priced me as though it’s 2 separate cuts off the roll. I’m somehow doubt they’d be making 2 cuts though unless I said I want to keep the remnants.

Anyhoo, I rang them back querying it and he said he’d chat to the fitter tomorrow as he may have made an error as he’s only the salesman. Big Grin

I dont see height of step measurement. do we asume same height as width?
Well the length of the landing would have to be cut from the length of the roll as its longer than the width. You might get stairs or hall along that same piece but possibly not both.

And you already know that...

Possible they cut the pieces a little bigger than the area to ensure a snug fit?
Ah, I see what he’s done. He mentioned a join of 200mm (near bottom of top landing). So carpet must be 5 metre wide and he’s squared off the entire area and calculated 12 steps rather than 8 as they come back on themselves. That’s gives an area of just under 32 square mt.

I said I didn’t want a join which bumped the price from 590 to 630 so he’d have to turn the carpet to run the other way. Maybe he just got confused with my demands. Should be little waste my way.

Thanks.

Each step has a rise of 175 and a depth of 250. Width is different. Some fun trying to climb each step if they were 820mm high Big Grin

From the carpet or in general?
From the carpet.
I had a lovely indoor dining experience today.
A joining would be basically invisible if he could do it in one of the steps.
Also, get them to put bit extra on the bottom step so you could move it down after about seven years and makes the stairs look a lot better after all the wear and tear.

Sometimes I have to say things out loud to others to confirm what I knew in the first place. But at least Ive worked out where he was getting his 31. something area from.

Thanks all!

The "update" seems to have affected PMs on the desktop site, lots of posts in feedback about it.

The migration to Vanilla was supposed to make changes and upgrades easier too!
Ah grand , it was only today oddly , and Feedback makes my head hurt pac

you get a big yoke saying there was an error, come back later, ignore that, and click all messages at bottom left of pop up.
