Have never heard of it. My family's traditional Christmas Eve meal depends on a bread sauce of sorts though. You basically chop up half a loaf of gingerbread (we usually use ontbijtkoek, a Dutch breakfast loaf, because it's relatively easy to get), soak it in roughly a pint of "Schwarzbier" for an hour or more. At the same time, you boil up some diced carrots, parsnips (optional), celeriac and a chopped onion until they're almost tender. Then you add the gingerbread mixture, cook until everything is nice and thickened, then you throw in some frankfurters or smoked sausages, and serve the whole thing with boiled potatoes and sauerkraut.

Bit of a digression, but I hope you don't mind Wink

Could I just have the schwarzbier please?  Big fan of it, never enough available in this country.
Proper frankfurters are amazing

That's madness, the poor staff. Who in their right minds would do a grocery shop at that hour????
Bread Sauce was very much 'a thing' for most of my life. iIRC starts off with an onion with cloves inserted in it. Said onion is then simmered in milk. Said milk ( now flavoured ) is added to breadcrumbs and simmered untill a bit glupy ( per individual preference ).
Your bread sauce is now ready.
Its just another way of streching the nice stuff (turkey) with filling carbs.  ( Like dumplings, Yorkshire pudding, parsley sauce etc. is for other nice stuff)
Back when roast chicken was 'special' ( up to the end of the 60's 'n maybe later ) bread sauce was usually involved.

Sorry for typos posting with a yoke based on a rev 0.0 atom processor
Merry Christmas!!!!!

I was thinking that too, why didn't she roll her sleeves up before she started?

I worked in Superquinn on college, and they opened 24 hours one Christmas. I worked as it was worth a lot of money. The Superquinn was next to a university. We got more drunk students in trollies than people shopping.
It was bedlam when I started the shift... I think around 8pm, but midnight the place was so quiet. Started picking up again from 6am.
I finally finished work just after 6pm today, and ordered an Indian as it was a tough week in work. I now have 2 loaves of Guinness brown bread in the oven, a glass of wine in hand, and about to start into the wrapping of the last presents.
Coffee and Ferrero Rocher's for breakfast.

Because it's Christmas so why the hell not   Heart

I made 3 trifles yesterday. The special one for my dad (have to liquidise all the fruit) hasn’t set so I’ll redo it again this morning adding less water to the jelly. Or, I’ll let the Jelly set for longer, I dunno yet. I also made the stuffing.

Christmas Eve food is always chicken in white wine sauce vol a vants.

Gotta clean the house when I get home this evening and need to sterilise the weighing scales to put the stuffed turkey on ?

Also, I gave myself food poisoning before from chicken and mushroom vol au vents, so my stomach curdles at the thoughts of them now  Sick
