Only catching up now for all last week.
Some great songs in the previous round.

To my huge surprise the one song that I really enjoyed was Tyler Habbard's: country would normally not be in my soundboard, but this was very feel good!!

Sara Bareilles - Poetry By Dead Men

Not sure if I heard of her before or not, but I certainly did not hear the song before. I have mixed feelings about the song. I like the chorus and the vocals.

I have heard of Sara, a very talented singer songwriter and decent actress also
Only a person who is dead inside could dislike this song, but since most of you clearly are dead inside I'm not expecting many of you to appreciate the joy factor on this one...

Fionn - Hold Off

That was awesome, the song was ok also
Can't tell if you're both being gross or not, but either way I'm going to ask people not to be gross before anyone crosses any lines, because if this thread descends into one of those sex pest threads some of you around here have been so obsessed with lately, I may have to consider putting a stop to the rest of the reveal

This thread is about music, its cool to appreciate music videos, but be tasteful about it. For a variety of incredibly valid reasons not everyone is comfortable with threads descending into sexually repressed teenage hormonal drivel, and I won't continue hosting a game if it alienates people who don't feel comfortable following along with those sort of antics

Fionn - Hold Off

I never heard of this duo before. I must be dead inside as the song did not do much for me I am afraid!  Rolleyes
Well, it's not a Nice Weather For Ducks level of joyfulness Tongue

Had my feet tapping, but I wouldn't be rushing to hear more. Big bang of a particular Taylor Swift song in the bridge section, but I can't place it. That said, it's better than anything Taylor Swift has done since... Blank Space, probably?

I hope you don't only want joyful songs in this round 🙈

You should know by now, I like a mix of everything
The song is okay, it is catchy but nothing memorable really. The beginning reminded me a bit of heartbeats by the knife.
yeah, definitely catchy and a feel-good factor in it, just not a song that would make me explore Fionn any further.
By the way: I haven't known any of the songs that you posted the last week or so RSOAPS - and in a few instances I have never heard of the artist either Smile
@Rachel Stevens on a Pogo Stick glad you enjoyed Nilufer Yanya. I ended up at one of her shows in London back in late 2019, totally unplanned but my friend was offered tickets and we were twiddling our thumbs for the evening so we went. She was brilliant.
Time for something a bit heavier I think to kickstart the weekend, so for today's selection we have...

Nova Twins - Antagonist

@Rachel Stevens on a Pogo Stick - I have to say that I quite like this one. Certainly blows the cobwebs! As per usual with your selections, I never heard of the act or the song before.
Fantastic. Very Attitude Era WWE.
My first gold star ⭐

Playing Whelan's soon, something about the listing mate me listen to them. Can't make it, but like everything I've heard

Yeah, they're playing on the 18h. Saw them support Yungblud in The Point last year, and thought they were class, so got my Whelans ticket for their headline gig as soon as they went on sale. Can't wait.

That makes sense, I'm at a wedding in Scotland that weekend, I knew there was a reason I didn't look at tickets Tongue
They sound great though, enjoy!

I might see ya there if I can get tickets.

They're really good.

Cool, glad they made such a strong impression!

And give me a heads up if you do get tickets and are heading in to it.
Since I went to see them last night, which is the 4th time I've seen them live since July, it feels only right to give their latest single a plug as my selection today

CARRON - Right Time

Yet again, a new name for me, and indeed the song. It’s okay. No strong feelings one way or the other about it,
Whilst I didn't love Right Time, there was enough there to listen to a couple more by Carron. Marble Arch was very nice

I then got distracted by seeing that Daughter have new music out though Tongue
Most of you will have heard me mention Aly & AJ before, I've used some of their songs in various games, and they were my most listened to artist on Spotify in 2022, and this is their latest single, which makes for easy listening on this nice chilled Sunday morning...

Aly & AJ - After Hours

Yet again, I never heard of them or the song. It's a pleasant enough tune.
Aiming for an 18.30 start for Round 3 reveal this evening, but may start slightly earlier or later depending on what I'm doing around that time

One last Soapy Selection for the Female of the Species Girls Only (decided to rename it) Round, and will go with a song from one of my favourite artists

IDER - Wu Baby

I never heard of this act before (surprise surprise!) or the song. I'm afraid it does nothing for me.

They were posted very recently somewhere, I thought it was in this game, their song 'Mirror" which is very good. This song though is a far cry from that, it is okay at best
Okay, lets kick-off the Round 3 Reveal...

This round is The Female Of The Species Girls Only ; any song from a female solo artist or female fronted band

As much as I loved the other rounds in this game, and as I've kept saying the standard has been so high across the board, this was by far my absolute favourite round of all, and also the hardest to judge as a result

The Distillers - Gypsy Rose Lee

Heard It Before: No

Review: Getting strong Joan Jett energy from this one, it has a very '70s vibe to it, despite being released in 2000. Love the gravelly tone to the singer's voice. Haven't heard of The Distillers before, but will check out more of their stuff because I really enjoyed this. I thought the first two round were difficult to rank due to high quality, but this round raised the bar even higher, and honestly any of the Top 12 songs in this round could've easily taken the top spot, it was an absolute dogfight to determine where they'd all eventually settle, but very good choice, just got edged out slightly by those above it

Emily Osment - All The Way Up

Heard It Before: No

Review: I know a lot of Disney Channel stars went on to have big music careers, so I shouldn't be surprised that Emily Osment is a singer, and yet I am, because even though when I was back in college I usually ended up watching Hannah Montana most mornings while I was having my bowl of cereal before heading in to lecture, I don't have any recollection of Lily ever singing on it, which seems bizarre because she has a really good voice in this. But I guess as Hannah Montana was primarily a showcase for Miley Cyrus, they didn't want to promote the fact that her co-star was a better singer… Yeah, that's right, based on this song alone I think Emily Osment > Miley Cyrus

K3 - Feest

Heard It Before: No

Review: Not going to lie, on first listen I wrote this off as a novelty song you'd get for some sort of Sportsball tournament and I threw it into dead last on my first ranking. It wasn't until the third or fourth listen that it really started to grow on me, I started thinking it was super catchy, and it became a serious contender for me, bounding up into the high ranks. It's so catchy and infectious and the more I listened to it the more I liked it. Considering how strong I think this round is, rising up that many places, is no easy feat. Really strong submission
12th Place with 16 points is aaronjennings

Talia Mar - Better

Heard It Before: No

Review: I've only recently become aware of Talia Mar because of the Sweet Lies song she did, which is essentially just a complete rip of off Shanks and Bigfoot's '90s classic Sweet Like Chocolate, but I really enjoy it anyway. It hadn't encouraged me to check out anything more from Talia Mar, but after hearing this one, I'm curious to see what else she has to offer. Really really liked this one, and as I mentioned the Top 12 here were really tough to separate, and it's so close between all 12 of them that this was so near to being #1 in this round, which sounds mad given it's now sitting in 12th, but so little actually separated the Top 12 here for me
8th Place with 24 points is Sephiroth_Dude

Japanese Breakfast - Be Sweet

Heard It Before: No

Review: Very fortunate that I decided to listen to all the songs when they were submitted to see if I knew them or not, which was before this appeared in a FOG Factor round. Really loved it right from the very first listen and I did think for awhile it was prime contender for top spot in this round, but quite a few other songs came along and just pipped it to the post, knocking it further back into the rankings, but very very strong entry all the same
13th Place with 14 points is Deja Boo

Jennifer Nettles - That Girl

Heard It Before: No

Review: Okay, so I know I really went on about how hard it was to separate the Top 12 in this round, but that's not to say I didn't also love the rest of the songs in this round, because I did, it's a really strong round, in a lot of Walrus rounds from the past this would be an easy Top 3 for me, it's just that I was able to separate it slightly from those above it. Hadn't heard of Jennifer Nettles, but I like her voice and I like the song, even if I feel like I've maybe heard quite a few songs that are very similar to it in the Country Music genre many times before. Really good choice though
7th Place with 26 points is Spears

7th Place with 0 points is Spears

In This Moment - The In-Between

Heard It Before: Yes

Review: The good news is I'm a big fan of In This Moment, so I really loved this. The bad news is I'm a big fan of In This Moment, so I also really knew this. At the very start of the first lockdown, I went through a big In This Moment phase, but The In-Between especially was one track I listened to a lot, sometimes on repeat for hours on end, and it made me feel better and almost content about the world falling to hell all around me. Unlucky as I knew the submission, but excellent song nonetheless
This will be by far my worst round regardless if Soapy knows it or not
14th Place with 12 points is Kol

Dido - Closer

Heard It Before: No

Review: I'd be familiar enough with the Life For Rent era of Dido, but I believe (from reading the YouTube comments on this video) that it was a hidden track on that album, and I've never listened to the album in full, so makes sense that I hadn't heard it. I really enjoyed it, and it’s a strong entry for the round, but on repeated listens some of the shine did come off it just a bit, so it failed to rank higher than this unfortunately. Still a really really lovely song, falling victim of possibly the strongest Walrus round in the history of Walrus
