Totally agree.  I enjoy strong female action characters, but having a female James Bond just to be seen to be PC or whatever is just ludicrous.  I think the producers said the other day that there wouldn't be a female James Bond, but you're right, it would be great to see a female 00 agent in action in the future.

Kind of amazing there hasn't been a spin off TV series given the money the streaming companies have. Could easily target it at a younger audience too, I'm sure it would be really popular

Just writing that makes me miss Spooks, maybe I should rewatch that!
The only spin off TV show of Bond I can think of is the cartoon James Bond Jr. pac

I always plan on going to see the new ones when they come out but then I never bother. I just find them very very samey and if I wanted to watch one I'd just pick Dr. No or something like that.

Agreed on the sentiment re: a female Bond for PC sake, they already crashed and burned at that with Ghostbusters so as EN says just write strong female characters, TV shows have been doing it for ages...
As a female no way should James Bond be female, he has to be male, charismatic, a fighter and look good in a tux, that's the way Fleming invented him, women fell for him, he left them shaken and stirred

The newest Bond reviews seem good but the length well over 2 hours putting me off seeing it in the cinema

I think Casino Royale was Craig's best outing, loved the theme tune, premise story, villain and Bond girl Eva Green, she had awesome chemistry with Daniel Craig
The only way they could do it imo would be to kill off James Bond and have a female assume the 007 agent number. And killing off James Bond won't happen as it would kill the franchise going forward.
Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins and Olivia Colman have joined Timothée Chalamet in Wonka, Warner Bros.’ prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Paddington filmmaker Paul King is directing the movie, which begins principal photography Wednesday in London.

King has lined up a slew of Paddington or Paddington 2 vets in the cast, among them Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. Also on the roll call are Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter and Rich Fulcher.

I'd definitely do the stage show, I do like some movies for a younger audience (e.g. Princess Diaries, Shrek, live action fairy tales) but generally not really into into a lot of the animated stuff.
Just found out I said that as they were announcing it's coming to the Bord Gais in Dec/Jan.
Mostly sold out apart from a few midweek shows that I can't make Sad

If you can though, you should do it, it's brilliant!

I agree! I've seen it twice, once in New York and once in Bord Gais. It is such a spectacle. I'm tempted to go again.

Yeah, I'll be keeping an eye out for any weekend tickets, fingers crossed. My wife and I saw it for our second date, the first time she came to see me in Bristol, 9 years ago Smile
Thanks @E.N.
Yes, some nice stalls seats left in mid week Jan, now do I try recruit compatriots or do I just pick the date that has the best single ticket for me! pac Choices choice...!
My wife decided I need a break (I must look frazzled!) so she booked me a ticket to go see James Bond tomorrow Tongue

Can't remember the last time I went to the cinema...

I went last weekend and enjoyed it, didn't notice the length. It had been two years since I was in a cinema so it was a nice treat, once I adjusted to how loud it is (I must be getting old) Big Grin

I'll need it to be loud to stop me falling asleep pac
I'm not really that keen on the cinema any more. It's expensive. The last few times I was there it was full of noisy eaters and patrons in general. And maybe it's the sign of *my* age, but I like the option of being able to pause a film in the middle for a toilet break or making a cuppa tea (or getting another beer from the fridge if I'm pushing the boat out), or whatever reason I may have. I just checked and it's been over 5 years since I've been!
My last 2 cinema trips were avengers endgame (2019) and toy story 3 (2010)

I worked in the liffey valley cinema many years ago, so used to see 1-2 movies a week, and before that used to go every other weekend in Drogheda. Still have piles of cinema stubs from then.

As QB said, I too prefer being able to pause for a break or if the phone rings or if my concentration gives up. It's streaming or pirating for me the last... 10 years or so.
I'm not clever enough to stream or pirate, but I record films from TV and have yet to run out of them - always at least half a dozen to pick from that were recorded previously. Same with TV shows. And if I ever do run out of recordings, I still have several DVDs to watch, so they'd keep me going for another while.
I'm the opposite. My attention span is terrible so if I watch a film at home I inevitably reach for my phone or something, and come out of the film. Being in the cinema forces me to immerse myself fully in it, that's why I love it

Of course, other people can ruin it, but in general I love the experience of going to the cinema. Can't wait for tomorrow. Afternoon showing too, so hopefully it'll be fairly quiet there
I've been to the cinema a couple of times since they reopened, and it's so much better than before. I was even at a sold out showing for Shang Chi, and it was so quiet.
We go to Liffey Valley, and all seats were €6 I think, and every second row is empty so nobody directly in front or behind you. The only person who can be sitting beside you is whoever you booked with too. Bliss!
Enjoy the cinema trip tomorrow.
I love going to the cinema, haven't been in so long. Might take a trip to see James Bond when the crowds die down a bit. We always use the 3Plus app and get two tickets for €10, which makes it a lot more attractive than shelling out €13 each. It's Sunday to Thursday only, but going on a Monday or Tuesday night it's usually nice and quiet.

I have a strict no phones or computers policy when watching films or TV. I may pause if I need to, but when I'm watching I make sure it gets my full attention.
I loved the new James Bond Smile

Yes, there's a few plot holes you could drive a bus through, but it's a great film

Absolutely agree.
In my own personal cinema, I can sit somewhere where i can see the screen perfectly, without having to worry about the heads in front of me moving and getting in my way, or someone with a bright screen moving it around in my vision line, or people talking all throught the film, who thinks thats acceptable to do?
I also really like being able to rewind if I miss something or pause for refreshments, both of which are impossoble to do in the cinema.

Social distancing in the cinema did wonders for this - when I went online to book I could be sure I had a seat with no one directly on front of me pac though Dundrum is pretty good in my experience for having a good slope/height of seat that, unless you get very unlucky, it is not an issue.

They used to do a Monday evening meal deal ticket that is good value from someone who wants the popcorn and drink. I only end up having to pee half way through if I get a drink so I just go without pac
For me only certain films are worth the money of cinema - for blockbuster action sequences, and I would like to see something like House of Flying Daggers in the cinema some time; I was bowled over by the cinematography on the small screen and think a big screen would be worth it for that.
I get what some of you are saying about rather watching movies at home and the perks it brings with being able to pause, no distractions...etc although for some, going to the cinema is an experience you just can't emulate at home. Walking in, seeing the movie posters, smell of popcorn, the big screen, the comercials/trailers. Even with the most expensive home cinema, you just can't get that experience at home.
Again, I get it's not fir everyone but I wanted to stress, watching at home and watvhing in the cinema are 2 completely different experiences.
Agreed that they are very different experiences, much like listening to an album compared to going to a gig (though that's a more extreme example).
Other difference between home and cinema is that you have to get dressed to go to the cinema Tongue

Nice - I already bought myself a solo stalls ticket for early Feb Big Grin And yes 77 something including the fees Confused
Raging I won't make this Lion King showing.

Sister is home from Canada for most of the dates I'd be looking to go Sad
It's a lot of money for a show. I'd pay it for a concert but somehow never that much for something like that.

Yeah, pretty insane money (they were very good seats though)
I'm justifying it because we saw it for our second ever date, 9 years ago Smile
We spent over €100 per ticket to go see David Byrne's American Utopia in The Point. Absolutely stupid money, but they way we looked at it was that he may never bring the show here again and therefore it was worth paying for the best seats we could get, which relatively speaking weren't actually that much more expensive than the cheaper seats. It was worth every penny. I'd be of the same opinion for any other show - if it's something you really want to see and it's unlikely you'll get that chance again, then go for it and splash out for the best seats you can afford. It's not as if it's something you do every week, and you'll only regret not going to it afterwards.
It's not even a criticism. People's jaw drop at the money I have spent on concerts (including travel, I've paid 4 figures for concert), so each to their own. But for me, no show would be the worth the same as a concert.

Am I right in saying that American Utiopia isn't even a show, but a film though? In that case, then (again, personally speaking) then that'd be even more mad money than paying for something live.
I have Celine Dion tickets... now they were crazy money for 'meh' seats in the Three Big Grin

American Utopia is a live show, David Byrne, a dozen musicians and a really unique stage set up.  There is a film of the Broadway performance directed by Spike Lee which might be what you're thinking of.

That's expensive for a theatre show

Ahh, I looked it up and it was indeed the film that I found out. For a live show, for someone the caliber of David Byrne, I think that would have been perfectly good value.

It is, but I also think when you see a live show with a quality cast and professional staging you see the value in it too - generally I think the insanely engineered stages are just mind bendingly fabulous... still remember the first real show I saw, Beauty and the Beast in the Point as a teenager, I thought it would be just another play and I was enraptured with what a proper budget can create Smile
