The Shape of Water is a great movie by him, I would highly recommend. Not my usual cup of tea, but I loved it.

Agreed. One of those films that just washed over me, in the best way possible. I remember sitting in the cinema about halfway through and suddenly noticing how happy I was, even though I find it hard to explain why Tongue
I do tend to like weird too, but he just doesn't do it for me. I'm more into Charlie Kauffman-esque style of weirdness, I guess.
Not sure I've seen any he directed, but I love Being John Malkovich and especially Eternal Sunshine Smile

Have heard amazing things about Synecdoche New York, must watch that sometime
Yeah, I meant as a writer. Adaptation is fantastic too. Syndedoche is odd for sure.
I have never seen ET I have planned on watching it for years but never have yet.

I have also never seen any lord of the rings and only 1 star wars movie (it was nominated in my movie walrus)

I think ET might be the most famous movie I've never seen though.

This got me thinking, what famous movies have you never seen and what might be your most famous?
Never seen any of The Matrix movies

I've seen The Godfather I and II like a million times. The third part doesn't exist
Never seen Casablanca, Goodfellas, Godfather, most James Bonds.
I think my most famous one, that came out in my lifetime, that I want to see, is probably Schindler's List. I've had it on dvd for years but never feel like I'm in the right frame of mind for it on a movie night

Of the older ones, I still haven't seen Taxi Driver or The Deer Hunter and want to correct that

Plenty of big films I haven't seen but that I'm not too bothered about too, like most of the MCU ones, Hunger Games, Twilight, Sound of Music, Saw, Fast and Furious, the later Harry Potters... the more I think about, the longer this list is getting!

The original is still well worth seeing. Yes it's a bit dated, and a lot of the effects have been replicated so often now they may seem a little old hat, but it's absolutely brilliant

Don't ever waste your time and electricity on that
Plus one for having not seen ET and no interest in rectifying that  Blush Took me years to watch Jurassic Park but I did eventually (meh), not seen Avatar either... Hmmm, is there a trend here? pac
I also have not seen the lion king  Shy

I think they are on Netflix until mid October. Might, just might, give it a go

I envy you for not having seen Avatar, I hated it!

I love the Lion King though. Depends on whether you like musical cartoons really, but it's about the best in that category. The stage show is unreal, too, highly recommend that if you ever get the chance

I'd definitely do the stage show, I do like some movies for a younger audience (e.g. Princess Diaries, Shrek, live action fairy tales) but generally not really into into a lot of the animated stuff.

Wait, have you not seen Pixar's entire back catalogue then? Sacrilege!
I think I've seen most of the films you're meant to see, nothing really missing.

Because I don't really go to the cinema though some more recent films are outstanding. I've seen only as far as Infinity war in the MCU. Also, none of the DC Universe though they don't interest me.

Never saw Halloween until recently. Never seen Friday the 13th yet though.
I've not seen Avatar and don't plan to, too lengthy alien smurf film it is  Big Grin

Lowest one I haven't seen is Parasite.

Dances With Wolves with blue aliens is what it is.  That's 17 hours (or however long it was) of my life I'm never getting back.  And they're making another three of them.  Suffice to say I won't be going to see them.

Of films I haven't seen, for some reason I've never gotten around to watching any of The Godfather films.  I haven't seen any of the LOTR films either, but I have no intention of doing so as they just don't interest me.  Another high on that IMBD list I have no intention of ever seeing is Forrest Gump.  I'm not a fan of Tom Hanks, and any little clips of it I've seen I really haven't enjoyed at all.  I've also skipped almost all the animated movies, Disney doesn't interest me at all, and then to make them worse they fill them with absolutely terrible songs.  Only saw Toy Story for the first time a year or two ago.  What an awful pile of sh*te that was.

As far as the list goes, I reckon I've seen 81, plus several more that I may have seen years ago but can't quite remember.  There's also a few on it that I really want to see. Also, how is the new Dune film on that list? It hasn't been released yet in most countries.

I'm glad someone had the guts to say that! Though it's not limited to Disney. I don't think I ever thought an animated film was ever more than "pretty good". Though in fairness, the Toy Story series (I've only seen the first three), are some of the better animated films out there. Still not deserving of the massive acclaim they get. They're only "pretty good" in my book.
I've seen 99 from that list and tbh, half the movies on it I'd have no interest in. Don't care how highly rated a movie is if I don't like the genre.

@quickbeam going back to your post on mcu and dcu, if you follow one would you not be interested in the other, I would have thought they are pretty much the same genre. Is there some sense of loyalty there or just personal preference?
I don't follow either I think the content in both is oversaturated hense the curiousity

I've seen all the MCU films, and enjoyed them all to varying degrees.  They're enjoyable escapist fun.  Excluding the older Batman films up to the end of the Dark Knight trilogy, I've seen a few of the DCU films, and by and large they're crap.  Wonder Woman was the least bad of them, and even then it wasn't great.  DC just don't seem to have gotten the tone of the films right, and a lot of the casting is questionable as well.  On paper, they're all superhero movies, but really that's where the similarities end.

Eep have only seen 58 of them!
Off that list, I've seen about 110

It's possibly due to the sunken cost fallacy that I just want to see to the end of the MCU, at least to Endgame, as I'm fairly close to that now. For DCU I've only seen Man of Steel and it was just okay and had no desire to watch more. I did like Nolan's Batman, and the Superman films with Reeve but otherwise that whole universe just doesn't really grab me and I don't want to get so far in to them that I feel a need to finish them too.

In MCU I didn't particularly like any of the Thor or Iron Man films. But I liked Captain America, and I liked Guardians and the Avengers so I'm prepared to see it to the end at this stage. Eventually.
Noticed something on that list, only one movie that was released in the last 10 years make the top 50 which was Parasite

Yeah, the list sometimes falls foul of fanboy ratings. Could be worse though. The 80s version of Dune could have made the list!
Not done the DC stuff, seems like a mountain to commit to them all Big Grin Have seen all the MCU films except Black Widow (and Ed Norton's Hulk).

Love @Zaph's description of Dances with Wolves with blue aliens pac definitely not watching it then!

No Toy Story here either, and probably only about 60ish of those top 250, still some I have been meaning to get around to...
Well a few cans later, I'm watching the matrix
I watched Peanut Butter Falcon recently, a decent feel good film with Shia LaBoeuf doing a great job in his role, good chemistry with his co stars Dakota and Zach
Saw Many Saints of Newark last night, really enjoyed it. The casting for the characters that will eventually grow up to be those in the TV show was absolutely perfect, you can picture each of them growing into the men they were in the TV show.

I liked how it opened a few doors of possibilities but also closed others shut with a bang, good movie from start to finish and not too mental of a runtime either (just a tiny bit over the 2hr mark)
I fare much, much worse in the "things you ought to have seen" when it comes to TV, tbh. Necro's post above reminded me. I've not seen The Soporanos.

I've also not seen: The Wire. The Shield. Boardwalk Empire. The Crown. Deadwood. Game of Thrones (not really interested in that one, I liked the books though so sticking with them). Better Call Saul (I have seen Breaking Bad, but several years after its peek). Stranger Things. The Good Place. Sons of Anarchy. Killing Eve. Line of Duty. Curb Your Enthusiasm. Seinfeld. Friday Night Lights. The Night Manager. 24. Bodyguard. Alias. Big Little Lies. Any Star Trek or Stargate series.
If I had to pick out of those (and I haven't seen them all nor do I want to) I would recommend the following:
The Wire. Killing Eve. The Night Manager.

Add watch Fleabag too, and I think I'll go see Bond 25 in the cinema. I love a Bond but only ever watch them on small screen, seemingly they went big for Craig's last turn, and got Phoebe Waller-Bridge in to help with the script Smile
I only saw Fleabag a few months ago for the first time, but it is now ticked off.

Bond doesn't actually interest me in the least. I've seem them all, I think, but only on TV. I don't like them enough to go to the cinema. I think the only time I saw one in the cinema was GoldenEye and I was outvoted by my "friends" who refused to go see a film about a talking pig instead (Babe). I think my choice proved better in the long run.

Oh now that you mention Golden Eye, I might have seen that in the cinema, meh ? It's all about You Only Live Twice for me Big Grin
Anyone got a trip to the cinema lined up for the new Bond?

Reviews seem to be good, but I've not read any in detail

The boards thread on it is... I want to say hilarious but it's not, it's weird. The sort of people who think "woke" is an insult getting in a right flap about strong female characters, Daniel Craig wearing a pink jacket to the premier, the idea that looking back some of the old Bond films were inappropriate in their treatment of women.

Anyway, not sure I'll be able to get to the cinema but looking forward to seeing it. Daniel Craig's films have been hit and miss for me, but at their best they've been great, so fingers crossed
I liked his first one. After that they were still kinda meh to me. I won't be rushing to the cinema personally.

I haven't read the Boards thread. I saw the AH thread about a female Bond, but just the title, I haven't entered it. I expect it's more of the same. FWIW, I think a spin-off in the Bond-universe about a female agent might be interesting. An actual female James Bond though can fuck right off.

I'll not say anything about the odds for Craig's replacement though as it's a Sheep question and don't want to unduly influence answers.
I wouldn't recommend reading the boards thread, it got messy! The low point was probably someone pretty much equating rape to dangerous driving

I agree about a female Bond, just stupid. It's patronising to think the only way to have good female characters is to take male ones and change them. Just write good female characters ffs! That said, that's probably more symptomatic of the general Hollywood trend to sticking with existing characters/franchises as they're safer than new stories
