Wait, do we not have a thread dedicated to food?
Can't believe that

How about a place for recipes, cooking suggestions, restaurants, takeaways, all the good stuff?

I'll be honest, I have a totally selfish ulterior motive.

Lorcand, I want this recipe! Tongue

Haha here you go.. This feeds myself & the wife with a bit left for the dog! I have a big appetite though

2-3 chicken breasts
4 tbsps of green pesto (I usually just use a full tub from Dunnes)
Juice from 1 lemon
500ml chicken stock
3-4 garlic cloves
As much salt & pepper as you want
350gms of penne pasta (I usually put in more!)
1 tbsp of philadelphia (again I usually put a bit more in)
1 mozzerella ball

cook chicken, pesto, garlic, lemon juice & seasoning for 2 hours on high heat in slow cooker

Add pasta & stock after 2 hours & reduce to medium heat.. leave for about 40-45 mins

Stir in Philadelphia & then break up Mozzerella & scatter it on top.. Leave for another 20 mins or so

And there you have it  Smile

It's really good, creamy cheesy garlicy goodness.. Oh and I should have said you dice the chicken before it goes in the slow cooker

I only started to get more into cooking at the beginning of the lockdown, I liked it before but started doing more things from scratch in the last few years. Before that I had a bit of a block about having all the right seasonings, ingredients etc in the house, but once you plan ahead the seasonings last so long that once you have them you can make tonnes of dinners from them

Had my first attempt at a Katsu Curry last night. Cheated a little by using that McDonnells curry sauce powder, but it turned out much better than I expected!
That sounds so good lorc!

I love cooking and baking but when my mood is low, I just can't. I try to stock up the freezer when I am able so that there's healthier choices, but inevitably the takeaways are the easier option with the least perceived effort.

I like getting Dropchef when I'm in good form, they have some lovely recipes, and can try out new things without having a whole bag/pack of something that it turns out I hate and will never use again. It's pricey though, compared to meal planning and shopping accordingly, but there's little to no waste.

Now I'm rambling, sorry!

I think rambling about food on our new food thread should be encouraged  Smile

It's weird, I like cooking lunches & dinners but I never bake & have no real desire to.. Answers on a postcard please!

Never done Dropchef but it sounds fun, I'd love the trying out new things part of it. At restaurants I'd usually go for the more unusual things on the menu.. Although since our new arrival, proper dinners out & even takeaways have been few and far between (hence more homemade dinners!!)

It would be VERY easy to make an extra portion.. for your eyes only of course

Also, there was no 'made', you were more than a willing participant

Omg a girl can't eat near a guy she's flirting with!!!! Unless it's nibbling on a salad. Which would obviously be impossible to look sexy doing and an absolute innocent angel like me wouldn't even try anyways!

Exactly Big Grin

I used to love cooking but these days it's more about convenience. Still try to cook properly but don't have much time with work and the kids. That's why I love the slow cooker, I'm in the office tomorrow so I'll be putting a stew on tonight Smile

I love food.
I got a chicken in my shop today, was going to just roast it with lemon and onion inside, garlic butter under the skin. But that's what I always do, any suggestions to change it up a bit?
I used to roast chicken breasts with spicy sausage, might be good with a whole chicken.

Don't have any sausage but have lots of spices, could do a spiced butter under the skin!
I had a caprese salad with avocado for dinner.
When I know I need to eat healthy but don't have energy or patience for cooking this is one of my go too meals.
I haven't killed Basil 22.0 yet, during the summer I try keep fresh Basil in the house and I always have Balsamic vinegar so this one is easy Big Grin

I love a Katsu Curry 🤤 I usually just buy the Chicken Katsu Salad Bowl in MnS though (really tasty Katsu Mayo in that!!!)

So for the sake of my wallet and waistline I generally don't bake anymore as I live alone.

I am clueless about spices, my standard go-to seasoning is lemon pepper.   Blush

caprese with avocado and balsamic sounds nomalicious ari!
Lemon pepper is lovely! I have a few unused spice mixes from meal I didn't get around to cooking, so I'll probably just use one of them, they're not labelled so I'll have to just see what smells nicest lol

Wink Tongue
What are peoples take aways of choice? If I had to chose I'd go for Indian. I like Chinese and Thai but spice is my big thing and Indian is a great mix of flavour and spice.. vindaloo or chilli masala would be my go to meal

Btw this is purely to know in case it comes up in a game,  not because I'm hungry  Tongue
I like most, but I have a soft spot for a traditional Burger and Chips with garlic mayo dip 🤤🤤🤤 Gosh I really want that now damn it 🤣🤣🤣
I have limited options here, I love the local chipper, garlic cheese chips and batter sausage would be my go to. New Chinese in the next village delivers here, not mad about their curry sauce but overall they hit the spot.

If I'm elsewhere with more options, I usually go pizza.

I prefare Indian, but the takeaways are shyte round my way. Also, no-one else likes it here, only me.

Not a huge fan of chinese but the kiddo's love a spice box in the local so we get that every so often.

I'd live on pizza if I could! Thankfully for my life expectancy, the kiddo's only like pizza every so often.

Leftover chicken fried rice with curry sauce and prawn crackers!

Now do I leave Leggy hanging for a few hours...

(not a huge fan of chinese takeaway, but I love a homemade curry)

I made a simple chicken curry the other night. Chicken, mushrooms, sauce, rice and chips.

Kiddo's aren't too happy eating leftovers so I usually have it simple the first day, and pimped it up the second night so that there's no compliants.

I fried leftover rice with a small handful of frozen veg and frozen onions, more fresh mushrooms, drop of sesame oil and some light soy sauce.

Had a small bit of the chicken curry with sauce, and had it with Dunnes spring rolls.

It was fekn devine!!!

(had prawn crackers there too but we didn't open them becuase they weren't needed)

I've no real preference, just depends on what I'm feeling on the day tbh between traditional and Chinese. I love the idea of Indian but I'm a wimp when it comes to hot stuff so mostly avoid it.

As for what I would get, mainly I'd pick up a quarter pounder and some form of chips with toppings but I'm also a fan of kebabs and *drools* snack boxes.

My Chinese orders consist of honey chicken wings, salt and chilli chicken balls and a portion of sweet and sour sauce Big Grin though I am also partial to a four in 1 too Big Grin

One thing I find harder and harder to enjoy is pizzas nowadays, either takeaway or store bought. They always seem to have extra little bits on them I really don't like so I mostly avoid them. Though I am partial to a BBQ chicken based pizza if I can get my hands on one!

Oh,  a fellow after my own heart - BBQ chicken  is my absolute fave pizza, can't be beat!

As for take away, I usually go with a pizza deal,  but  burger and chips would be my first choice (haven't had them in ages). I don't mind Chinese occasionally - Lo Mein noodle bowls are scrummy, but never would I ever go for (gag) Indian, the smells alone are not appetizing.

Allow me to present my chicken curry pizza!

Margerita pizza, a tin of chicken curry, mozzarella.

Just call me Hest-E.N. Blumenthal Tongue

[attachment=727]
I did not know you could get tinned chicken curry!
I like Indian because they cater really well for vegetarians.
I absolutely love pizza but I prefer when I can choose my own toppings because I find veggie ones often have olives on them! *ShUdDeR!!* Whyyyyyy!?!
Making my first crack at Southern Fried Chicken tonight, doing it slightly healthier in the oven, so I guess it is southern ovened chicken!  Tongue

Recipe seems to be handy enough so I have high hopes for this!
Oooh I do my own dry rub chicken wings (with the whole wing, not the tiny sections you get in delis) and they are spot on! I love them crispy so bbq or hot sauce is out.

Whole wings all the way! I'd always go hot sauce though,  bbq sauce for ribs
I had toast with honey and a cupan tae for breakfast 🤤

Scrambled eggs and toast for lunch 🤤

Chicken fajitas for dinner 🤤

And I'm gonna have cookie and a cupan tae later and if youre all lucky I may share it with ye 😜
I've got a marinated pork fillet (garlic and herb) waiting for the over to heat! Big Grin
With about 90 places to choose from it it can be hard to have a go to, I do love a traditional chipper.. Big beef burger.. 2 quarterpounders burgers with bacon, cheese, more bacon, more cheese and taco sauce on a bun..
