I'm on track to get my current assignments handed in on time, I lost a bit more weight and I'm ignoring the feeling that the other foot is going to drop!
Our kitchen fitting started today, they will be back tomorrow to finish it. Then tiler is coming Saturday morning to do the splashback, and my Dad wl finish the electricals that afternoon.
We have been without a proper kitchen since the Oct bank holiday. I can't wait to cook a nice meal! There's only so much microwave and airfryer food you can take!

I'm hanging out with my brother. Drinking wine and waiting on take away. Oh and another happy.. I gave a client's family the heads up that I was planning to take on a couple more clients so I wouldn't be as free to chop and change hours and they were so worried about losing me (even though I told them that won't happen) that they gave me the extra hours I need, a payrise and a few other perks. I wasn't expecting that at all and I feel so flattered and so fortunate to have them. Smile Smile

I'm happy because today I went to the hairdresser and I now have pink hair. And then I went to see Book of Mormon, so now I'm grinning from ear to ear.
My friend has a spare ticket for the show tomorrow night so I'm going to see it again tomorrow!

What does your sig mean I can read it so I understand it so when you say reading do you bmean book reading ?

The medium of communication social Twitter forums book mean that everyone reads but not everyone reads is that what you mean
I think there should be a new word for reading
What age are you maybe people from before the text revolution mean something different that newer kids when they say reading
If you do mean book reading dies audio books count
I abridged audio book a lot recently as I have two jobs and the second one is mainly physical be so I like to be listen to audible
Will I li km w to download pirated audio books but it's all teh same innit

Is audio booking the same as reading
Do we dev Loope to the same internal dialogue
Reading is fundamental is from Ru Paul's Drag Race, the aim is to make people laugh. The Reading Challenge, also referred to as Reading is Fundamental is a mini challenge where the queens have to read each other and throw shade.

However I am a bookworm, and audiobooks do count towards reading in my opinion. As do digital books. Reading should not be exclusionary, and it should not matter what format someone digests a book in.

Exactly, I prefer mine to be read by the author who is sitting next to me whispering it into my ear Big Grin
Physical books and digital books definitely are reading (though I don't have an e-reader so only do the former).

Audio books are an absolute valid form of entertainment, and I wouldn't be critical of anyone consuming a book that way. But I sincerely don't and wouldn't count it as reading.

Mr CJ has been listening to this and says they are amazing with some top notch perfect casting for many roles.
Scientifically reading a book vs listening to an audiobook would be one and the same as they both stimulate the same brain activity and responses
(04-12-2021, 10:31 AM)Trigger Wrote: [ -> ]Scientifically reading a book vs listening to an audiobook would be one and the same as they both stimulate the same brain activity and responses

So I've heard, and I certainly don't know enough to contradict the scientists who say so. But to me, when you read, you've giving your full attention to a book. But when you're listening, you're just not doing the same. People usually use audiobooks so they can do housework at the same time, or exercise, or drive. To me, that just can't be the same experience.

Then there's the stuff you miss out on if you're doing audio - things like drawings (Michael Crichton books, for example, usually have explanatory drawings along with the text), or maps, or simply made up languages in made up alphabets that just can't be spoken (I read a lot of fantasy so get a lot of this).

Then there's the fact that audiobooks have now become more like radio plays. It's not a straight up reading of the book any more. There's a cast of readers, and background music appropriate to the scene. All this is great entertainment. As I said, I've no problem with them as a form of entertainment. But it's not reading. You're hearing characters using accents and tones of voice, that are being interpreted for you, instead of letting you use your imagination as you would if you were reading it yourself.
Audiobooks originally came about as books for the blind.  Fantastic, for the blind even if it's a pity that they are no longer cassette media based. They are also fantastic for people with dyslexic issues. This was a revelation to me when I discovered it 20 odd years ago Smile
Prefer factual, hist or bio.  Bio read by the author, esp if experienced performer are usually very very good ( Terence Stamp and Dirk Bogarde come to mind )
Havnt come across multi character books much. I suppose Dear Lupin might be counted as one, I think its done very well.  Fiction drives me up the walls ... 'cause life is stranger than fiction  Dodgy

Journal of Neuroscience

Quote:SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Humans can comprehend the meaning of words from both spoken and written language. It is therefore important to understand the relationship between the brain representations of spoken or written text. Here, we show that although the representation of semantic information in the human brain is quite complex, the semantic representations evoked by listening versus reading are almost identical. These results suggest that the representation of language semantics is independent of the sensory modality through which the semantic information is received.
