we use bitlocker on our work machines. it used to require the enterprise version of windows to have bitlocker available, they must of changed that. The triggers for needing to enter bitlocker code manually were, tpm chip failure, bios update or making any change to any boot related files.
unfortunately, my experience with bitlocker in the corporate world is of no help to your issues, I can offer no further suggestions if this is a personal laptop. If though, it is a work laptop, then ask IT, cause if this happened to any of the machines i look after in my job, I can easily get the bitlocker key for them, but only for the machines in my corporation, so no help to you.
