Bitlocker?? - Leg End Reject - 24-08-2022 Help! My PC seems to have crashed and I need to enter my bitlocker code. Slight problem there, I hadn't heard about it until I tried to turn on my PC. Googled it and signed into my Microsoft account to get it, but I don't have one. Apparently if I can't find it my PC needs to reset and all my files will be lost. I set the PC up myself a few years ago and have no memory of this setting up and giving me a code. I've no idea what caused this and I only use the PC for work related stuff, no dodgy files or websites. Do I admit defeat and lose all my files? Most of them are backed up, except of course for old photos. 😱 RE: Bitlocker?? - Kol - 24-08-2022 Do you have another microsoft acc that it might be in? RE: Bitlocker?? - Sephiroth_Dude - 27-08-2022 Did ya sort it leggings? I've never heard of this before and had to google it, looks like the only way to solve is to do a fresh reinstall of windows unfortunately. Have a read of this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/finding-your-bitlocker-recovery-key-in-windows-6b71ad27-0b89-ea08-f143-056f5ab347d6 RE: Bitlocker?? - Leg End Reject - 27-08-2022 (27-08-2022, 04:03 PM)Sephiroth_Dude Wrote: Did ya sort it leggings? I've no idea what triggered it either. 🙄 RE: Bitlocker?? - Neowise - 27-08-2022 (27-08-2022, 05:13 PM)Leg End Reject Wrote:(27-08-2022, 04:03 PM)Sephiroth_Dude Wrote: Did ya sort it leggings? I've no idea what triggered it either. 🙄 we use bitlocker on our work machines. it used to require the enterprise version of windows to have bitlocker available, they must of changed that. The triggers for needing to enter bitlocker code manually were, tpm chip failure, bios update or making any change to any boot related files. unfortunately, my experience with bitlocker in the corporate world is of no help to your issues, I can offer no further suggestions if this is a personal laptop. If though, it is a work laptop, then ask IT, cause if this happened to any of the machines i look after in my job, I can easily get the bitlocker key for them, but only for the machines in my corporation, so no help to you. RE: Bitlocker?? - Kol - 27-08-2022 After reinstalling Windows, it is still posible to retrieve deleted files with specialised software. Remember data is never really deleted until the space they occupy is reused. Quick googling led me to this page, option 2 I didnt about, the cmd trick. then there is disk drill which seems to only allow limited amount if data with the free version https://www.cleverfiles.com/howto/recover-deleted-files-windows10.html I also found this software, even the paid doesn't look too expensive, can't vouch for it though, never used it https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva Remember though, the less you do on your pc after the reinstall, the more luck you will have in recovering files I also read that some Windows version have a recovery file after you reinstall Windows so mabe the files will just be in that and I'm complicating things for you RE: Bitlocker?? - Neowise - 28-08-2022 if the drive is encrypted, then no software is going to be able to recover anything without the encryption key (bitlock recovery key) If the drive is not encrypted, start machine with a live boot usb (like https://www.system-rescue.org/ ) before reinstalling anything and copy all your files off onto another disk. (before reinstalling windows) you do need access to another machine to make the live usb stick. RE: Bitlocker?? - Leg End Reject - 28-08-2022 Some more research shows this is a common problem and that bitlocker automatically activates on some machines so the user doesn't have a code! I have a wireless mouse and keyboard and my pc won't detect them now so I'll have to go up to the attic to find the originals. 😤😡 RE: Bitlocker?? - Leg End Reject - 28-08-2022 Seems to be a bug if you updated to Windows 10. Disable bitlocker if you have. |
