Yeah, the news can really drag you under. I'm the same, I pick and choose what to read. With covid I read the raw numbers only, because I'm a mathematician I can't help myself. And they really don't concern me too much, but then I'm also optimistic and wantonly naive! Sometimes you have to choose naivety though
The only problem with cherry picking news sources is that you can get very biased, and I think that's a lot of what happening in the world. It is good to read about things you disagree with to understand other viewpoints but I'm a hypocrit and don't make the effort that much
