yahoo was like a directory back then, where you'd submit the site into the books category. altavista was like a predecessor to google, where it scraped the web, but finding stuff was just a chore. google redefined internet search so much so that it gained the term, to google for stuff

I remember in the early days of the internet Guinness installed PCs for anyone to use in a few pubs, including McGowan's in Phibsboro.  We were there one afternoon and we decided to have a play with it and within minutes we were chatting with someone in Ohio or somewhere like that.  Accessing it was a bit of a chore iirc, it was all done through Netscape, but it was so incredible we didn't care how long it took.  Kids these days would lose their minds waiting for a 28.8k dial-up modem to get going.

The funny thing is, stories like this will become this generation's version of our grandparent's telling us how they got to school

What's a telephone booth? I'll explain later. And if you wanted to connect to the internet, you had to sit at a giant screen in the corner of the living room. And you couldn't connect to the internet and talk on the phone to someone at the same time. How did we watch Netflix? Oh boy, are you in for a surprise, let me first tell you about this incredible device called a VCR...

Or before that the A and B buttons, I was very young so I never knew what they were for.

The excitement when we first got the landline and the race to answer the phone, back then there was no caller display and no one thought twice about answering.

Oooh, we went from 5 digits to 7, still remember mine and a primary school friends, and my grandparents!

We didn't have our own phone line in the house for ages, there was a line between my grandparents and ours. If my parents wanted to make a call, one of us would be sent over to Nana to switch the line over. And we had to put 20p into the box for the cost of the call too!
She often just switched it over to ours, and if it rang and was for them, we would be sent over to get her to pick up the phone and transfer the call too.

No, ruled out Berlin and Porter quickly. I was 50/50 between Copeland and Gershwin. Well, a little surer about Copeland, which is why I went with him in the end. Ah well. I didn't need that €16K anyway I 100% would have taken the money if it was real life.
