FOGs great hidden gem song as request by @Declan A Walsh and to quote him if I may 'A Tournament of Best Lesser Known/Less Played Hits by Artistes. Voting on those forgotten hit songs'

I have titled this hidden gem though I suppose you can make of that what you will. There will be no criteria on what is eligible, songs which have gone under the radar over the years, maybe they didn't chart well, maybe they were album songs, or maybe they charted well but you don't hear of them much anymore. Let's see what we can find

Please PM me up to 10 songs and we will see if we can make a tournament out of this
I have started on a list, but I will need to give it a bit more attention before I finish it.................and I have to do some work.  Big Grin
Like One Hit Wonder Gems?
One hit wonders don't tend to be hidden per se. I'd be more looking at songs that you don't hear much if at all and what better outlet to showcase them than a Fogs tournament Smile

I was reading it as being alternative songs by bands generally associated with one or two famous songs. So maybe including one hit wonders non hits...?

If so, I've a couple in mind

And I'll resist the urge to just enter REM and Radiohead B-Sides Tongue
I think @ShaneU will enter all Pink b side hits
@Rachel Stevens on a Pogo Stick has been providing some good new tracks on his walrus

Debating whether to take part in this one or not... In previous tournaments I would've just joined in without thinking through the consequences of getting invested, but I feel like I've finally learned that the voting public in these tournaments always get it wrong and that taking part just ends in frustration...

I can picture it already... Someone will enter the likes "Roll With It", "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" and "Little By Little" by Oasis claiming they're underrated because they only reached #2 in the Charts and not #1 like other Oasis songs did...

Voters have zero backbone and instead of condemning such mainstream hits and refusing to vote for them, people will vote them through round after round because "they're good songs" or "they're easier to listen to that the weird Indie Goat Jazz it went up against", and those of us who appreciate the weird Indie Goat Jazz for being unique (and actually being a real hidden gem) will get annoyed and rant our way through round after round before "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" ends up against "We Are The Champions" by Queen (because that also only reached #2 in the charts) in the final, and Queen will win because they'll be seen as the lesser of two evils, and it will all have been another ridiculous and pointless experiment proving democracy doesn't work...

My blood pressure is rising already just thinking through the hypothetical scenario of how this game will inevitably go...
Might be worth stepping back Soapy, if it's not going to bring you fun and joy. This is a place of fun, no one wants you to get annoyed by it Smile

Well it does irritate me, but I wouldn't say it annoys me, my above rant was purely for the lols...

I still may enter this, but it entirely depends on if I can find 10 epic Indie Goat Jazz tracks first... Wink
I don't know any Indie Goat Jazz, that sounds right up my street!
Where should I start?

Well, I caved in and decided to submit 10 Indie Goat Jazz tracks to this, so you'll soon find out I suppose... Wink
Okay, I'm in. When I was making up my list, I had to chop and change a few as more came to mind. I realised that they are all from the 1980s, but I definitely would have had a few from other decades had it been 50 entries! If I did this tomorrow, I have no doubt that I would have a slightly different selection of ten songs. There are so many hidden gems out there.
Remember when people got Killing In The Name to Xmas #1 as a protest against X-Factor?

Anyone up for increasing the chances of an Indie Goat Jazz song winning this game in protest of Oasis & Other Obnoxiously Obvious Options taking the victory once again?

If so, PM me to learn how you can do your bit for the revolution!!!

Why are poor Oasis getting picked on😂

I only entered one track from them actually and it was from their B Side album (which in and of itself is a solid hidden gem album!)

Also We Are the Champions is not a hidden gem. Fat Bottomed Girls on the other hand....

😜

We're definitely going to have issues with the definition in this one. The Masterplan (I assume that's what you're referring to) is a brilliant album, but it's not a hidden gem Tongue

Not for you or me maybe but to the lay person if you asked them to name 4 songs off The Masterplan would they be able to do it  Cool

Hence, hidden gem  Big Grin
I have mostly associated hidden gems with album tracks that haven't been released as singles.
Or if it was a single, it was such a non-event that only fans of the artist would be aware of it
Having said that, for the last 10 years or so I haven't been paying attention to charts at all.
So when I listen to an album, very often I am not aware which are the singles. This gives me a blank canvas to listen to the whole album without any "single" influence. And I often find out that I like album tracks more that the singles to promote the album.

I will definitely play when this goes live. I will try to prepare and submit a list over the weekend

My knowledge on Oasis starts and ends with the Morning Glory album which I find. . . tolerable.
So yeah, most other Oasis songs would be hidden gems for me, though chances are you wouldn't get any votes from me because I don't like them in general.  Tongue pac
If you like post-punk, new wave, New Romantics or modern electronic music and various bits between.....Check out ABC to XTC presented by John Connolly on RTE Gold on Saturdays. There are months of his programme on the RTE Player. I have been listening to a number of them. Very eclectic and plenty of extended versions of stuff, not to mention obscure in some cases. You will definitely find some genuine hidden gems there.

Its not a gem to you if its not something you like, its just hidden (although when it comes to Oasis I wouldn't even consider it hidden, all of their stuff is mainstream as it comes, no matter how much Necro tries to claim otherwise)

The "Gem" part of Hidden Gem is important. It should really be something that you feel you desperately need to tell people about because of how amazing it is even though so few people know it. Like you physically want to make someone want to sit and listen to the music because its that awesome

No one would ever desperately need to tell people about an Oasis song, because a) if people are that interested in hearing more from Oasis they can do a deep dive themselves, everybody knows of them, has heard at minimum a few of their songs, so there's not going to be any big surprises or hidden gems in their repertoire, they're so mainstream we'd be aware already if they had anything amazing outside of the ones everyone knows and b) all Oasis songs sound exactly the same anyway
I'm considering changing the title of this tournament to 'Fogs greatest song which didn't chart in the top 100 in Ireland, UK, or US and is not an Oasis song'

Plenty of non-Oasis gems that charted and proceeded to be forgotten about in the airwaves.

I think we should just have a "zero Oasis tolerance policy" for all future games...

This is also very true. Chart performance is not actually a very good measure of what is or isn't a hidden gem. The first question I would ask myself if I needed to determine whether something is a hidden gem or not would be "would many people know or even be aware of this song/artist"

Throw Bruce Springsteen, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Eminem, and Beyoncé in as well and I'd be in favour of that
