First post-covid gig for me last night, Katherine Ryan in the Olympia

So nice heading into town, place was busy, got some food and a drink, packed theatre, no fear, everything just felt normal

As for Katherine Ryan, she was good, but not amazing. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't be in a rush to see her again

Now I need some live music! Nothing booked until the end of July, might need to fix that...

I had 2 Bruce Springsteen tickets practically in my hand and the feckin' BOI app crashed and wouldnt let me verify the payment. Of course when it was fixed all the tickets were long gone. So frustrating!!!!

Hello everyone, hope you are all well.

A bit last minute-y, I have an extra ticket available for the Frames tonight - for free!! The friend that bought them can't come anymore due to illness, but she's not looking to get any money out of it, thus the free part!!!

Looking forward to an evening with Richard E. Grant in October. Bought them to cheer myself up after the Bruce Springsteen debacle.

Very impressive list. I'm jealous, that's the sort of diary I used to have! Kids and country living (and Dublin hotel prices!) have killed off my gig going at the moment.

Yeah understandable, luckily I live in Dublin, have no dependants, and minimal responsibilities, so all I need is the price of the ticket (most of the ones I go to are between €10 and €25), bus fare, and maybe enough for a pint or two if I fancy them, but I rarely drink much anyway, so its reasonably inexpensive in the grand scheme.

When I started this thread I never expected to be going to so many gigs, and I often buy a ticket a day or two beforehand if not the day of, so I just forget to post here, but if anyone is genuinely interested in my gigging adventures (past or future), pretty much all I use Instagram for these days is posting the handful of pics I take at gigs... www.instagram.com/cian.taaffe/

The yungblud concert sounded class. I had half toyed with that but I don't know much about him, other than that he's going to win the Love Song round in FOG Factor Wink

Cheers, I'm shite at taking photos in general and don't like having my phone out at gigs, but it is nice to have a few, so will grab some snaps quickly at one or two points in the night, and a couple of them end up being accidentally decent.

The Yungblud gig was pure class, he's great at putting on a show. Had everything from pyrotechnics and the whole audince leaping about the place, to pulling a couple of people waving trans flags up from the audience on stage to sing with him and general messages of inclusivity in between songs. There was even a proposal during I Love You, Will You Marry Me.

That's some list, fair play!!
I have Soak on my list too, just waiting to confirm what day of the week my German classes will be in autumn.
Also Placebo: I wasn't planning on it as I have seen them a few times already but I was very pleasantly surprised by the new album.

Yeah, figured I might as well go to as many as possible, carpe diem and all that jazz. Need to sit down and book some more tickets for some of those I don't already have tickets for over the next few days before things start selling out.

Not sure Liz. 3Arena definitely only cards.
Olympia the last time I was there couple months ago were still accepting cash.
I generally don't drink lately and haven't used the bars in other venues.

Ah man, I'd forgotten the buzz of live music.

I'd forgotten what it's like to really feel music, literally and figuratively.

To feel the bass in your gut
To feel the layers of music wash over you
To feel the emotion of the lyrics
To feel everyone around you feeling the same

It was incredible, I've missed it so much without realising.

Whelan's was amazing
The crowd were amazing. I spent a while just looking at the crowd, watching people loving it

Arab Strap were amazing. Or maybe they were just a band I love performing decently. I'm not going to analyse it, I'm just going to love it. And look for my next gig...!

(incidentally, I'm sober! Had to drive home)

Its such a buzz going to live music, the energy is just cracking... I've now been to 32 gigs since February and each one has been like what you described above - as an atheist, I'm guessing its the closest thing to true devout religion that I'll ever experience...

Ha ha, that's amazing, good work!

I honestly don't know how I'd forgotten. Even yesterday afternoon I wasn't sure about going (admittedly, having to drive into Dublin to go on my own, sober, isn't quite the same, but still) but I'm so glad I did. Like you say, being part of a good crowd at a good gig is probably the closest thing to religion for heathens like us!

Saw your post about Metric too, cheers for the heads up. It's the weekend between my birthday and my wife's and we normally try to go away but I'll see if we can bring that forward a weekend so I can make it Tongue

The artists are all loving being back touring again, so they're also feeding off the energy of the audience in a much more spiritual way (seen quite a few get properly emotional up on stage being back in front of a crowd again) so its been class. Not to mention it's done wonders for my mental well being and I'm probably more zen and positive than I've ever been in my entire life, which I'm pretty sure is what religion does for people, so its an apt comparison I reckon.
