I still don't get it, you'd still be directly competing against others, even if there's more than one other competitor.

Basically in a sport like sprinting or swimming,  you aren't directly facing your opponent. In tennis the game is dependent on a back and forth with an opponent, that's the distinction I think

You can't play tennis alone, for example. Your performance can be dependent on your opponent

Yeah, we are actually glad she hasn't cancelled, it was hard enough getting our very expensive mediocre tickets at the time  🤣 And once we get over the grumpiness of the long running saga, we will properly appreciate that the new rescheduled date is a Friday, where previously they were mid week and my friend doesn't live in Dub, so makes it handier for a proper beverage and stay up here. 😁
