No probs Spears, I'm happy to accept votes anytime up until Sunday night really

And I approve the slandering of songs you don't like, I'm kind of hoping the knockouts will be open warfare Tongue

Quick note, there hasn't been a tie yet but it's damn close. If there is a ti for first or second I'll use these as tiebreakers...
...most 5pt votes
...fewest 1pt votes
...scores from the people who nominated the songs
...at this point I'll probably just pick my favourite!
(In the knockouts I'll come back to group scores if there's a tie)

Anyway, here's tomorrow's round, as it's ready...

11 Jessie Ware - Free Yourself

12 Crazy What Love Can Do - David Guetta, Becky Hill & Ella Henderson

13 Hold Me Closer by Elton John and Britney Spears.

It's like listening to a not great song & an annoying ring tone at the same time.

Like I don't know which part to focus on.

It kinda gives me a headache, & makes me feel odd 😣.

I'm loving Anti Hero by her now, not sure it is nominated here, late release, she is a damn fine clever catchy song writer no doubt

It's not nominated, so I can speak freely Tongue

It's the most obvious song on her new album but it's terrible, and Swifties are a dangerous yes cult who'll accept any shit she throws at a wall and proclaim it as genius

I mean "at tea time, everyone agrees" is an objectively crap line, it would get marked down in junior cert poetry

And "I sometimes dream that everybody is a sexy baby, and I'm a monster on the hill"...?

I really don't get the love for Taylor Swift. I find most of her songs very generic, nothing to grasp my attention.

On a different note, 2 great songs in Group C - hope they go far.

She used to be like Marmite, back around Shake It Off. I really don't like that song but I appreciate its uniqueness and attitude

Now she's like a cup of tea and a rich tea biscuit. You know what you're going to get, and it's grand, but it gets bit boring after a while

I like some of Tay Tay's singles, more so since she became more pop and less country. I am a fan of the sound and theme of her new album. Still not a Swiftie by any stretch, but I wouldn't turn down a ticket if I got one 😁
Was it really over two years...   Whoops sorry... Life just got in the way 🙈😅

Her last show here, didn't really sell well, lots of comp free tickets, was it Croke Park or Aviva she didn't fill, sell

Oooohhh... That was a goodie round!! 🥳🥳

Things are starting to look up now😏

Really liked the Jessie Ware submission 👌
(Anyone remember her song from the condom ad? I still love that song)

(without any admissions) I'm going take a guess & say this is a Irish Aris submission 🤫

I do like the Elton & Britney song, but it hasn't a patch on the Elton & Dua Lipa remix. Could listen to that over & over

Also, the Wombats Wildfire song from last round too - I wouldn't normally listen to songs like that & I hadn't heard it before, but I really liked that one. It was funky & fun to listened too 👌😊

@E.N. I haven't forgot to PM my vote this time 😜 I'm sticking with 5,4,3,2,1 voting, but I'm struggling where to place the songs.

Like I genuinely don't feel any of the songs deserve a 1, 2, or even a 3 score.

Some of them are catchy & probably not exactly 'credible' in music terms, but I still enjoy listening to them.

I have two days to vote right? I might sleep on it & Eenie, meenie, miney moe it in the morning 😆

18 Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal - B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All)

Baddest Of Them All is an aptly named song anyway

Still better than that George Ezra tripe to be fair, but then again so is getting punched in the face

Close? 🤣

Sail her no more, boys, sail her no more
Or your ship may be wrecked and you'll sail her no more
There's pirates in waiting and storms to be tamed
The shoals all bear names of the boats that they claimed
But under our feet the warm waters that roll
Are blue as cut sapphires and shining like gold

I like it. I mean, I don't love it but it was nice to hear something a bit different

Randomly allocated, as you asked.
Though I did then manually swap a couple to ensure that two songs from the same person wouldn't be in the same group

OK, the results are in!

In Group A it was really close, but Dermot Kennedy nicks the win thanks to the "I fancy him" votes! The Big Moon also make it through, with Metric and Lizzo just missing out

Dermot KennedyKiss Me46
The Big MoonTrouble45
MetricDoomscroller44
LizzoAbout Damn Time44
Kenny ChesneyKnowing You31

In Group B it's a bit more clean cut, with Mimi Webb taking top spot fairly easily. Soccer Mommy just beats Wombats to qualify

Mimi WebbGhost of You50
Soccer MommyShotgun44
WombatsWildfire42
George EzraGreen Green Grass38
Taylor SwiftBejeweled37

In Group C we have joint winners in Jessie Ware and youngblud. Jessie had more 5 pointers, so will qualify in first place
Beth Orton's score there is, quite frankly, a disgrace. Beautiful song.

Jessie WareFree Yourself49
yungbludThe Funeral49
David Guetta etcCrazy What Love Can Do45
Elton/BritneyHold Me Closer40
Beth OrtonWeather Alive29

Finally, in Group D it's Sigrid and Bring Me The Horizon with a handy win and Tate McRae also qualifying.
Baddest of them all does, indeed, get the baddest score of all the entries, even a 2020 one!

Pretty happy with those results, for once ye got it (mostly) right FOGheads...

I wouldn't have put Dermot Kennedy through myself, and would've been more than happy to see Metric, Wombats, or David Guetta & Co make it through to the Quarters, but only so many spots available, so it is what it is

My votes are as follows:

Soccer Mommy - Shotgun
The Big Moon - Trouble
Tate McRae - She's All I Wanna Be
Sigrid & Bring Me The Horizon - Bad Life

Gonna keep the reasons simple, just the song I prefer from each pairing...

My 2 nominations both made the quarters, but have I voted for them here? Have they come up head to head? Or was I swayed by a new song since nominating and gone for that instead?

If anyone can correctly guess both of my nominations from the above 8 correctly, I'll give you bragging rights or we can be BFFs or some shit like that (ie. No actual worthwhile prize, just for fun to see if any of you know me well enough)

Dermot Kennedy
Mimi Webb
Tate McRae
Sigrid, BMTH

The ones I'm more likely to replay at the moment 😁 There were a few I liked I'm sorry didn't make it but nothing objectionable (IMO) got through so may the best song win!

Dermot Kennedy vs Soccer Mommy

Dermot qualifying over Lizzo is a travesty. Most bland and boring artist this island has ever produced. He needs to go, don't care how much you fancy him.

Mimi Webb vs The Big Moon

Feel like I've already heard the Mimi Webb song a million times before.

Jessie Ware vs Tate McRae

Jessie is disco so obviously going with that. Other song wasn't in my top two that round.

Sigrid, BMTH vs yungblud

Again, I feel like I've heard the Sigrid song a million times before, very bland radio pop  like our Dermot.
