Yep, each round should be judged on its own merit. I say that as someone who thoroughly deserved to be kicked out after subjecting you all to Patti Smith caterwauling.

If I can't decide based on that night's songs, I have a running total for everyone on each tier, I feel that's the fairest way for me when there's no clear cut option.

I think that's actually pretty fair because it takes more songs into account and we all went to the trouble of picking 12, that way one bad round won't necessarily send you home
