How do I get alerts for a thread?

When I go to subscribe the only options are no notification, PM or email?

When you subscribe to a thread, you have the option of getting an email, a pm or neither.
you can also set up alerts, in user control panel,


and customise the alerts.

alerts are onsite, you have to be active on the site to notice an alert.
email will alert by email if you are not on the site.
