Anyone going to Bruce, hopefully the weather will be better than currently, I'd love to be going
At the price of the tickets I wouldn't listen to him if he was in my back garden tbh. Gig going is stupid expensive for the big acts nowadays
I heard @Rachel Stevens on a Pogo Stick bought front row tickets pac

I got free tickets for Duran Duran, wouldn't be mad about them but going anyway

I don't think someone could pay me enough to endure such nonsense...  Tongue

Will stick with my gigs that range between Completely Free and €25

Not too long ago I went on a gig booking spree and purchased tickets to 12 gigs in the space of an hour. Mentioned that to someone afterwards and they assumed I had just dropped several hundred quid, because they tend to go to gigs that cost about €70 or so, and couldn't believe it when I said the total price of all 12 gigs only set me back €93 as they all only cost between €5 and €12. The absolute best gigs I've ever been to are generally the ones that cost the least.
Cork rarely has decent priced gigs  Sad

Does Cyprus Avenue not do decent priced gigs? I've never been, but I figured it was the Cork equivalent of Whelans (Dublin), Dolans (Limerick), Róisín Dubh (Galway), or the Oh Yeah Music Hall (Belfast) and would have reasonably priced gigs?

I've haven't been there in a while as Old Oak had a bad crowd around but Pretenders sold out there and Tom ex of Kasabian cancelled, some known acts if there can be pricey for the venue

I think Dublin gets the best in low key intimate gigs imho

Golden Discs used have a few intimate gigs for album launches

I'm jealous of your gig goings @Rachel Stevens on a Pogo Stick

I would be on the other end of the axis, most of the gigs I attend are on the expensive side.
I have 7 concerts in June/July that cost 450 euro- that's before Ticketmaster fees, which probably were another 40-45.

Summer has the big outdoor gigs though, guessing it's a bit distorted because of that
Kind of @E.N. , though the pattern is mostly the same all year around. Even in the autumn/winter most of my gigs are for bigger names, so mostly The Point and Olympia. Plus I'll see a few plays/musicals at the Bord Gais theatre which are always expensive.
No regrets though and I spent money on merchandise too!!
Duran Duran for me tonight.
The setlist includes a few b-sides from the first 2 albums, so as a big fan I'm really excited to hear them live for the first time.
Hopefully everyone will be in the mood to stand up and dance the whole time!!

@ShaneU hope you enjoy it!! 🙂

How was it, Aris?
How was Jake Spears too?

I had a quick look at the setlists, I actually know more Duran Duran than I thought but it would have been very front loaded for me with Wild Boys and Hungry Like The Wolf early on

Looks like Jake's set was half Scissor Sisters? I am quite jealous of that Tongue

Hope was the crowd, with the seating and all?
It was a brilliant night I have to say,

It was a great gig @E.N.
I thought the sound was much better than St Anne's Park where Simon's voice was coming in and out occasionally - not sure he just had an average vocal day or they didn't setup the sound correctly outdoors, last night though he sounded great!!
The whole thing with the sitting didn't work obviously, everyone was just up and dancing the whole time. And The Point was full, so all the free/discounted tickets worked. I'll make the educated guess that the promoter could see they wouldn't sell out the bigger config with the large standing area and they have probably sold too many standing tickets already to do the smaller standing area. Didn't matter anyway.

Jake Shears was fantastic!!
The set was half and half: All the singles from the debut Scissor Sisters album plus I Don't Feel Like Dancing and 4 songs from his upcoming new album which seems to be very dance-y!!
Not sure if there would be enough interest to bring him here on his own gig, but it would be great if a promoter could arrange it!! I could see him selling out a venue like The Academy.
Cool, glad to hear it was good, @Irish Aris

I've seen plenty of people moan about the sound in the Point, but I've always found it really good. Definitely better than most outdoor gigs

Would be cool to see Jake Shears over again. I'd go to see him, knowing he plays a few Scissor Sisters songs. Kind of feel bad saying that though, I know most solo artists probably don't want to be reliant on their old band's hits

Wow that is a good support act especially considering how cheap tickets were selling in the end
Finally, finally made it to my first gig of the year (having been forced to cancel four so far)

[attachment=1099]

Pulp were... well, if I'm honest they were grand but I loved it. Great setlist, great crowd. They murdered a couple of songs but they nailed some of my favourites, especially I Spy and This Is Hardcore.

All in all, very, very enjoyable, even if it might be the worst of the four times I've seen them. The first time was 27 years ago 🙈

Agreed.
I'm not a big Pulp fun and have only seen Jarvis once on his own a good 13-14 years ago. But I had a great time last night!!
Great energy from the crowd!! I thought the string section really added to the songs they played. Beautiful stage design and nice lightning design, the red was especially striking!!
All in all, a great night out!!
Yep, the string section was great, even when they were just clapping or shining torches 🤣

The stage was great too. And quite simple in some ways, more bands should use the height of a stage with raised platforms etc

Thought about you when I saw the announcement for Explosions In The Sky.
Considering a ticket myself, though I think I have 2 more events that week 🙂
I am very tempted by Explosions too!
Holding off for now as I hate Monday gigs now that I'm not in Dublin, I'll see nearer the time what things are like workwise etc, see how easy it would be. I've seen them a few times, they are very good

I saw in the other place you're going to Duran Duran and they switched standing tickets to seating on you, that's such a shitty thing to do. Gig goers, particularly at the big venues, are treated like dirt these days, it's so annoying

Bit the bullet and bought the ticket today @E.N.
will be my first time seeing them, so really look forward to it!!

On the train into town for this now. Pulled a muscle at football last night, nearly gave up on tonight as it's sore as hell but I've missed too many gigs this year so I forced myself out. Now that I'm on my way, I'm really excited. Live music is still a real rush, even after 28yrs of gig-going Smile
Holy shit, Overhead the Albatross were incredible tonight. I love their debut album but it sounds like the new album will be taking it up a few levels. I implore everyone to listen to it whenever it comes out

Glad you had a great time E.N.
Considered it myself but the weather kind of made the decision for me.
Taking a break for the next 2 months as I have a few more in the autumn.

I was quite drunk when I wrote that, paid for it today!
They were awesome though Smile
I'm hoping Coldplay will do Cork or Limerick besides Dublin when announced, supposedly 3 or 4 Croke Park shows is the rumour
