There's going to be chaos in October when Ulster and KBC leave.
The banks that were bailed out by the government shouldn't have been allowed to close rural branches, we're at the stage now where if you don't live in a city you won't be physically able to go into a bank. They can't staff a rural branch but they can pay out millions in bonuses and dividends to the big shots, go figure.
Even if you live in a city it's not great. Toto had to take a half day yesterday for a 10 minute appointment to open her new account. Ulster are the only bank who open on Saturday, and none open later than 5pm. Back in the day at least TSB used to open until 7pm one day a week. Want foreign currency other than GBP or USD? That's a hassle and you have to order a week in advance. Want a bank draft? You can only have one if it's over EUR 500. Want to actually speak with someone in your branch? Good luck with that, does Christmas work for you? I fully appreciate that online banking has improved a lot of the crappy bits of dealing with banks, but there are times you need to go to a branch, and the services in them have been gradually eroded to the point of them being a joke.
