Have finally finished cleaning out the Losers Lounge in preparation for the next exhibition, our riskiest MSPaint, Roulette! 

 

All our players were assigned randomly as describer or painter. 

The game ran super secretly, and currently only I and one player know exactly how that was put together.

Game Details

I played a very mean trick on you all, naughty nothing. In this game, there was a single description and everyone else painted. I knew there was only one shot to ever do this, and I was curious to see some of the regular describers take a chance on painting, and maybe, just maybe, they might be less intimidated by it in future.

As you all know, while great artistry is appreciated, that’s not what the core of the game is, in my opinion it’s about having fun, interpreting the minimal information you’re given, trying to describe a picture with complex elements in only 10 words can be really tricky, and we inevitably fall down a crazy, hilarious rabbit hole.

And so, after some discussion with my partner in Paint, DejaBoo, we decided to give it a go.

I am so so grateful for everyone who participated, and apologise for my mean trick… well, apologise might be a stretch!

Painters are in random order, and will be revealed anonymously also in random order! Please don’t “out” anyone, there’s a couple that will be very obvious who painted it, but a few were a bit unhappy with what they produced (tbh I thought they were all brilliant!) so let’s not upset anyone!

I decided to generate something totally random, without using a starting image to try not to give the game away that you would all be painting, and so we plotted…

We kick off with an excellent example of sticking to the description! Spooky purple sky, check, complete with clouds and lightening. Pizza church, check, Sponsored by Dominos, with a pepperoni slices to a steeple, hopefully the cheese stays put in the vertical position! Yellow Egyptian Elmo, check, classic smiling Elmo dyes himself blond for the season and borrows Tutenkamun’s head dress in blue and orange. Halloween juggler, check-ish, he’s certainly a juggler, and a proficient one at that with 5 balls in the air, his orange and purple jester style outfit has hints of Halloween, and he does appear to be missing his legs, I guess that’s scary…

Ah @jp liz v1 , there's nothing to be ashamed of. I can't paint, but it's all about the laughs and the fun imo , it's not a competition and shouldn't be seen as one . 😊

This time our spooky purple sky dominates the image, complete with black clouds and some birds. Another pepperoni pizza church, this time the whole pie except for a slice removed so patrons can enter the church. The dyed blond elmo keeps smiling, this time in a fez to show his new Egyptian heritage, and he says “I am Egyptian Elmo”, in case there was any doubt! Our Halloween juggler is gone all out! He’s as skinny as a skeleton, with a carved pumpkin head and he’s juggling 5 little ghosts… well, I assume he’s juggling them, they could be floating over his head and he’s trying to swat them away.

Love the pizza Church!

Another example of sticking mostly to the brief here. Our purple cloudy sky is very effective and creepy, our blond dyed Elmo is dancing like an Egyptian a la 80s hit from The Bangles. We have a juggler who gives me Bosco opening credits vibes, who is literally juggling HALLOWEEN, I love that creativity! Pizza church is far off in the background, with another pepperoni construction, with separate dome and steeple, and a four sided star (a la 4 star pizza perhaps!?) complete with priest observing the madness from the door.

Our Spooky purple sky includes a witch on a broomstick silhouetted against a full moon and a classic sheet ghost. The pizza church has been recently converted from classic Catholicism with some slapdash builder installing pepperoni pizza slices after Papa Johns bought them out. Blondified Elmo sports some ancient Egyptian garb, a black and white hat, a snake staff, fancy gold necklace and a wrap! An evil clown is in the jugglers position, with 3 pumpkins in the air, juggled swiftly!

I like how almost everyone so far has had the same "Walk like an Egyptian" arm pose for their Elmo!

Spooky purple sky dominates another paint, with dark grey clouds with rain coming down in globs and huge lightning stikes. Our blonde Elmo is wearing an Egyptian rulers hat (I don't know why I can't remember what it's called) and has taken the jugglers job, masterfully juggling 4 carved pumpkins! This church of pizza with its pepperoni slice steeple is multidenominational with dominos, pizza hut and four star all advertising. The priest appears to be from Mario's Mushroom Kingdom!

A double paged work up next, starting with the spooky purple sky, complete with a couple of bats, a full moon, a mewing cat and a … tree? Over on page 2, someone lost their colouring pencils. This time our church is not constructed from pizza, but has two pepperoni slice signs beside the cross at the top of the steeple. It proudly proclaims it is a Pizza Church, welcoming you to Come in Say a Prayer - have a pizza! Outside, a bishop prays In The Name of The Pizza. Elsewhere, a classic sheet ghost manages to juggle 6 balls. Elmo, however, has gone AWOL.

Oh you are devious, so far all I see is evidence everyone should be willing to paint more often - these are all great!

The spooky purple sky here includes a full moon, couple of bats and some… crosses? Elmo decided he was sick of the upkeep involved with being blonde so went back to his natural red, though he keeps the yellow with a nemes (thank you google!) showing his Egyptian heritage. A skeletal juggler in a witches hat has 4 balls on the go, pure skill. Church of Pizza is a modern multistorey building with cheese walls and pepperoni windows, and I can just imagine the loud, American preacher inside!

These are all brilliant! If any of the painters so far were reluctant they shouldn't be.

Randomly assigning roles might be a good approach, with leeway for anyone who refuses to paint.

Back to a dominant purple sky, with some distant birds and… um… UFOs? to spookify it. Elmo returns to blondishness and sports another of his many nemes! Church of the Pizza has expanded its toppings from just pepperoni, with some green, yellow and brown (not quite sure what!) with some fabulous windows and a steeple. Our juggler appears to be the personification of Halloween in the form of a flailing, inflatible tube man, who is somehow keeping 4 balls in the air!
