I know (or think I know) that Ireland aren't great in football. I think I might have gotten mixed up & thought this was a football question, & that Ireland wouldn't be popular for this answer
Ireland are quite good at the rugby, certainly at the Six Nations level, but France and England are tough ones to beat. Ireland has won the Six Nations a few times, and also the Triple Crown (Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales), sub-section within the Six Nations. On the world stage, it is a bit different with the likes of New Zealand, in particular, Australia and South Africa.
Yes, the Republic of Ireland soccer squad would not be brilliant. Note: there are two soccer teams on this island, the other being Northern Ireland, but just one Ireland rugby team (a curious united Ireland team, where most of the Ulster contingents would tend to be from a Unionist background).
