My Rating: 7 IMDB Rating: 7.5

Synopsis [Courtesy of IMDB]
Against the backdrop of a gloomy San Francisco, the nearly two-century-old vampire, Louis de Pointe du Lac, recounts the unbelievable story of his eternal transformation and a life worse than death to the sceptical reporter, Daniel Molloy. Spanning two hundred years of cruel betrayals, extreme solitude, and unquenched thirst, Louis' grimly fascinating tale pivots around his perpetually regrettable decision to embrace the dictatorship of blood, and, above all, his maker: the seductive blonde aristocrat of death, Lestat de Lioncourt. Is Louis' mystical epic of bloodshed genuine? Is this, indeed, an interview with a vampire?
Review
Well I have given this movie a 7 though on reflection, I might be over estimating it. Saw it a few times before and from memory it was good. I thought at first, on this rewatch, did they miscast Tom Cruise? I thought then that his character developed quite well throughout the movie. I had forgotten he was killed off so early, or was he? Brad Pitt, did okay i guess. Antonio Banderas looked really odd in it, especially the wig they gave him. Lots of biting necks, blood though not the squeamish kind, and some good fire scenes. Not your typical vampire period movie, there was humour though nothing like the camp Hammer horrors of the 70s and it probably paved the way for media of the vampire genre for years later. A decent choice.
Trivia
Tom Cruise was placed on an elevated platform during some scenes to reduce the height difference between his character and other vampires.
