Now that my best movie star of all time is hurtling towards the final stages I started thinking about my next 'FOG' project and I was thinking that I might do

AFTER ALL WHATS THE POINT OF DOING THIS IF YOU JUST LOOK UP THE ANSWERS. 

So, here's what I need. 

CONTESTANTS! 

All you have to do over the next few days is sign up. PM me 3 topics you would use as a specialist subject in order of your preference. 

I will prepare 10 questions just for you plus 10 more based on general knowledge and at least one of those will be a kind of tiebreaker question which should help us not to have a draw!  

I need 3 topics (BUT YOU WILL ONLY BE QUESTIONED ON ONE OF THEM AND YOU WILL KNOW IN ADVANCE WHICH TOPIC IT IS) as I will allocate them on a first come first served basis and if all 3 of your Harry Potter based chosen specialities are unavailable I will PM with you until we get something not already taken. 

I'll firm up the timings later once we get a few nibbles of interest / PM'd topics.

Please do not comment on here about your specialist subject. That way it will be a nice surprise for everyone at the reveal. I am also planning to have at least one question from every suggested topic so random questions will appear scattered in the general knowledge section.

i think you have seen my 'Best Actor of All Time Tournament'   I have a habit of setting myself mammoth tasks. It's more fun that way. Isnt it?????? 

I have set a lot of quizzes in my time so the questions are not worrying me at all. How exactly I decide what to do for the reveal will be what I have to really work on. 

It's only 10 questions per entrant on the confirmed speciality subject and the rest will be General Knowledge which is handy enough to compile.

True of course. Though I see the Tournament work more as grunt work - a lot to do for sure, but not quite on the same scale as having to come up with questions. The general knowledge ones will be fine, but when someone submits a specialist subjects of "the pylons of the Novosibirsk" having to go research 10 questions on something you know nothing about just seems like ... well, more than I'd be prepared to do anyway

When I ran my Mastermind Sheep game a few months ago, someone submitted "prodigious sporting talents" as their specialist subject

That was a fun one to come up with a question for... and not only that, it had to be a Sheep-worthy question with multiple possible answers

At least in this game, the questions can be more straight-forward for Wichita to create

Thinking up specialist subjects was hard.  This was the preamble I gave Witchita:

it's hard to find three topics for specialist subjects. I'm competitive enough that I want to pick something I'll have a genuine chance with, and yet, private enough that all my quirky, embarrassing obsessions can stay my own

There will be at least one question from each topic suggested mixed into the General Knowledge rounds but some people may not even get asked any of them. As questions will be divvied up randomly and I will have more than I need in the question bank.

We have 11 entrants so far. I have started working on the questions but it will take a week or so I reckon to get everything to where I want to be. More entrants are welcome. All you need to do is PM me with your 3 options for specialist subject - in order of preference and I'll take it from there.

Preparations are well underway in that I have a ton of General Knowledge questions ready and about two thirds of the specialist subjects done. At this stage we are looking at late December for posting questions and a January reveal. 

There are 14 contestants so far. If anyone else wants to join in there is plenty of time. Just send on 3 specialist topics (by PM) you'd like in order of preference.

Questions will start hitting your inboxes shortly. We have 16 entrants - 
NOTHING, AARON JENNINGS, LEG END REJECT, NEOWISE, DEJABOO, KOL, IRISH ARIS, QUICKBEAM, DUFFMAN13, CDEB, SHANEU, ZAPH, EDSER, GREENANDRED, E.N.,
DECLAN A. WALSH, and you have all been allocated a specialist subject from one of the 3 you sent to me. 

There is to be no googling, fact checking, book reading, Alexa asking etc etc etc. This is a little test of your actual human memory banks and MOST IMPORTANTLY it's meant to be a bit of fun. 





You will all get:
10 specialist subject questions, 
10 randomly selected general knowledge questions - some of which were even chosen from all of the proposed but unused specialist subjects - 
and 5 'tiebreaker' questions which will only come into play in the event of a tie. 

Questions have been sourced from 'mostly' reputable sources and like all quizzes some are easier than others. Although as I always say every question is easy if you know the answer! 

With regard to the specialist subjects in particular there are some niche topics that I have no knowledge of whatsoever so the questions might be really, really, really, simple or they might be so hard that even University Challenge wouldnt use them! You will just have to take your chances and guess now and again I suppose.  

The reveal will be organised some time after I get everyones answers back so please send them on as soon as you can. I am still working on the reveal anyway so there is no mad panic.*

Making sure i sent the right questions to the right people and didnt include the answers with them was more stressful than compiling them all in the first place!
