Trying to combine a Christmas idea with a Walrus without getting 15 entries for The Pogues is bloody hard work...

So I decided to make things a bit spicier...

SECRET SANTA WALRUS!!

The premise is simple: each player in this game will be both a judge and a contestant in a 2 song walrus. Everyone will be given a player that they are trying to cater a song to, in secret. This song will be judged and scored by the recipient according to their own tastes.

In addition to this Secret Santa portion of the Walrus, a player in this game will be submitting a song at a randomly selected other player. For this second one, you will have no idea who is on the receiving end, beyond another player in the game. This song will also be judged and scored according to this recipients tastes.

Deadline to enter as a player is December 1st, so about a week.
Deadline to submit your tracks is a week after that, December 7th.
Reveal will be whenever I get all the information back from the players, hopefully around Christmas time - it's only 2 songs each peeps....

Reveal to be around Christmas time, assuming I can get all entries/judgements back in time...

When "inning" to get the best possible songs from your secret Santa, a few things about your style of music would be helpful!

For example:

Genres liked: Classic Rock, Metal, Soundtrack/Score, Indie, Alternative, Synthwave, 80s rock/pop
Genres Disliked: Death Metal, Modern Country, Modern Rap, Guns used as percussion
Artists liked: John Williams, Metallica, Audioslave, Muse, Bad Religion
Artists Disliked: Bob Dylan, Yoko Ono, Modest Mouse, Macy Grey

I won't be playing as I will have all the info, so it wouldn't be fair...

Sooooo

Let's get ready to Kris KRUMBLE!!!!

Nope there's not really any categories per se, you'll be tailoring one to suit your secret Santas tastes and a second to be randomly judged. So they don't have to be Christmas themed Big Grin

I think "eclectic" is the best way to describe my musical tastes. Pop music from the 00s to present day would be my main genre, female artists especially. However I also love Avenged Sevenfold, Arcade Fire, a bit of Eminem or even a bit of country when I'm in the mood, so I'm open to options

At the other end of the scale, if you send me K-Pop, you will score an instant zero Tongue

I'll join in.

I generally gravitate towards upbeat mainstream music - with new music the overall sound will make an impression before the lyrics... if I don't like the sound/track/melody, a great song can take a long time to grow on me.
Real dislikes: When it's noise and not music :p (e.g. Slipknot), rap without melodic interest either in the form of a chorus or great track (I quite like some more mainstream hip hop and rnb but not so much rap). Not a huge fan of very 'folk' sounding stuff either...
Open to lots of genres even if they wouldn't be my usual cuppa tea, I have lots of songs I like that don't fit into what I might normal listen to.
Was it really over two years...   Whoops sorry... Life just got in the way 🙈😅

Sounds good, I'm in. Not too fussed about genres as long as the song is good, and I enjoy discovering new music that I'm unfamiliar with rather than hearing something that has been played to death in mainstream media.

Favourite Genres: Indie Pop, Indie Rock, Synth Pop, Modern Country, Modern Blues Rock, Nu Metal, Folk Fusion

Least Favourite Genres: R'n'B, Reggae, Grime, Dubstep, House, Club Dance (Ministry of Sound, things that make you think of 'Ibiza', that sort of dance)

Favourite Artists: HAIM, The Shires, IDER, Linkin Park, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Kate Bush, Local Natives, Radiohead, Larkin Poe

Artists Disliked: Creedance Clearwater Revival, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Faithless, Beyoncé, Arcade Fire, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey

In simple terms, you'll be sending me two songs, one for your Secret Santa who will be privately revealed when I close sign ups, and a second song that will be randomly assigned for another player to judge.

In return you'll get two songs as well and you just listen to them and judge them before PMing me your scores. You can do it out of 5, 10, 100, 10 million, however you like. If you want to do a little write up you absolutely can, I'm not going to make it mandatory though as it might put people off.

Hopefully I will have everyone's back in time for a Christmas reveal!

I will play too, can't say no to a Walrus.

You all know me as an 80's geek.
All genres are fair game though except for:
-Rap/Hip-Hop/Trap and all other subgenres
-Heavy/Thrash/Death Metal - especially if they have distorted vocals
-Country (though I recently developed an interest in bluegrass)

Meant to come back to answer the "what do I like?" question.

My music taste has mostly evolved from being a 90s indie boy. I like indie, folk-rock, post-rock especially. Mostly what I want is the feel of a song though. I'll take believing the singer means what they're saying over technical ability. Some of my favourite singers have voices that are pretty rough and ready. Favourite bands vary a lot depending on my mood, but I come back to 65daysofstatic, Enter Shikari, Portishead, Sigur Rós a lot. I get bored easily though, so I love the likes of Radiohead and The National but hardly ever listen to them, knowing they exist is enough Tongue

But despite all of that, I'm going to quote my own walrus...
(09-08-2021, 11:41 PM)E.N. Wrote: I want new music. I really do. If you pick a good song I don't know it'll beat my favourite song. Probably Tongue
I want new genres, new bands, stuff I wouldn't normally listen to. So don't worry about what you think I like, please pick stuff you like that you think deserves a wider audience. And that doesn't mean it has to be obscure, for example I know next to no chart music these days. I don't know much dance, rap, RnB, country...

Wow, that was much longer than I planned Confused

I'll enter too

Rock music is usually my go to music genre but i love a bit of everything, pop, dance, rap, blues. I love hearing new music even stuff in foreign languages that i can't understand

I dislike modern day country songs and modern day rap. Oh and most songs by Justin Bieber or Ed Sheeran give me nausea

Go on, I'm in.

Likes: pop and rock mostly, including country. I'm an indie fan from 90s too, and enjoy folk. My most listened to artists on Spotify would be Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Hall and Oates, Matchbox 20, Take That, Bell X1, and Robyn. Oh massive fan of Eurovision and musicals, especially Hamilton and Book of Mormon. Classical also has it place in my listening.
Dislike: Heavy metal and dance, hate dubstep.
Reading is fundamental

Thanks Necro!

My music tastes are a cross between Ari and Wichita’s Smile
I do enjoy modern country, crooners, classics, soundtracks, musicals, ballads, pop, christmas, enya-like, slow, upbeat. fun, meaningful, cheesy --> I'm game to listen to whatever.
... but I am not a fan of rap or the gun-drumming music Necro mentioned - just no.

Me too!

My go to is usually Corey Taylor live, Slipknot, Seether, Korn, Five Finger Death Punch...
But when driving, I love anything new that comes on the radio. Usually the latest summer tune, Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Rhianna when she was around.

Dislike: Country. Beyonce, Coldplay, Westlife/Girls Aloud type 'bands'.

PMs all sent out to our entrants, you now have your Secret Walruses Big Grin

So just as a reminder you're submitting two songs, one which is tailored for your Secret Santa, and the second one which is going to someone completely random.... it might be the same person even...

Deadline for song submission is next Tuesday, December 7th.

Oh and there was... just one thing I forgot to mention in the OP....

There's a little twist in store... which will be revealed after the songs have been submitted
