ForumOfGames presents: The Fellowship of the Ring

I amar prestar aen... The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf-Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine Rings were gifted to the race of Men, who, above all else, desire power. For within these Rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived, for another Ring was made. In the land of Mordor, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master Ring, to control all others. And into this Ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life.

Your mission is clear: root out the evil that walks among us. Be warned, the path to victory is shrouded in deception. Trust no one, and listen to the whispers of your heart.

But heed caution, for a twisted creature also lurks nearby, drawn by the scent of the One Ring like a shark to blood. Its very soul is split, warring between a pitiful, forgotten past and the monstrous craving for its "Precious." This tormented being will stop at nothing to reclaim what it believes is its own.

Game Rules

The game follows the standard FoG Werewolf format, but with abilities and mechanics unique to our theme. The game will be played in anonymous accounts on ForumOfGames.com.

No Metagaming

This game requires the highest levels of absolute secrecy.

Allow yourself to fully adopt your character persona and do your utmost to conceal your RL identity. Do not share private messages, screenshots, or any other non-public information about the game either in the thread or outside it while the game is ongoing. Do not discuss the game outside of this thread and the designated backroom. Avoid character reveals

Timelines
The game thread opens on Sunday, October 12th (Day Zero), with the first official day beginning at 10am on Monday, October 13th (Day 1). The first official action will be Lynch at 9PM on Monday. Followed by Munch at 10am the following day. The official game actions will continue in that format until the game is over.

Objective
  • The Fellowship wins by eliminating all the Wolves and successfully chaperoning the One Ring to the fires of Mount Doom, cleansing Middle-earth of its greatest evil.
    • This sacred duty falls uniquely to the Hobbits among you, a burden few can comprehend.
    • Should the line of Ring-bearers be extinguished, the quest to destroy the One Ring fails, and with it, all hope for Middle-earth.
    • Yet, the Ring itself is a persistent and powerful force; even if its current bearer falls, its fate may not be sealed, and its dark influence may still be resisted.
  • The Wolves win when their numbers equal or exceed the number of Villagers, successfully corrupting or overwhelming the Free Peoples of Middle Earth.
  • The Serial Killer wins by gaining parity with the village & wolf teams, claiming the ultimate prize for themselves amidst the fiery ruins.

Gameplay
  • Day Phase - 10am−9pm: This is the voting phase. Players discuss, debate, and vote to lynch one person they suspect is a Wolf. The person with the most votes is eliminated from the game.
  • Night Phase - 9pm−10am: The GM receives private messages from players with special roles. The Wolves choose their target, the Serial Killer chooses theirs, and any special actions are carried out.

Voting
Use the password and lynch form link in your DM to cast your vote each day. Failure to vote will result in a vicious modkill and make life significantly more difficult for the rest of your team!

Activity
Please try to be active in the thread. If you cannot be active for a day, let the GMs know in a private message. 5 post minimum per day, or suffer excruciating consequences. Inactive players will be fried up and served for second-breakfast.

Autopriest
After a Lynch result is confirmed on thread, the GM will share the full name, role, and abilities (if applicable) of the victim. A full table of votes on each player will be shared in chronological order.

Hello to all, these are dark times indeed and our quest more desperate than ever. We must be steadfast in our vigilance for the agents of mordor who no doubt will seek to cull our numbers and claim the one ring for themselves unleashing times of unspeakable horror upon middle earth. Be careful my friends.

Good morrow all. A darkness stirs within our very walls. The Enemy’s servants have crept among us, wearing the guise of loyal men and women. Each night they strike unseen, and each dawn brings new dread. We must uncover the traitors before all we love is lost. Protect the little ones!

I'm with Benjamin on this! The theme is lost on me anyway.

Hi everyone. Just the one wolf and a serial killer mentioned in the first post? Guessing there are more wolves

Fear not my friend, for we will not always have the mental fortitude to speak in such a manner, and the old ways will fade.

Patrick, I pray your baking skills are stronger than your reading ones, since when did Wolves (plural) imply a singular?

Ina May, I fear you may not have read the specific wording of my actual post. Put the baby down and partake in my finest loaf. Baked fresh this morning.

Only 1 wolf is mentioned in the opening post, and a serial killer. True or false?

I shall also regale you with a joke as you seem to be quite argumentative at the moment.

Q. What was the best thing before sliced bread?
A.  Massive sandwiches

Wolves, plural are mentioned multiple times Patrick. Read it again.

Ugh, reading is tough when you don't want to. I'll try again.

Name the wolves mentioned it the OP, actually mentioned by name. Let me know how many names you find. That was my point. Read my original post again.

I sincerely hope the first sight of this world the poor babies in your care get isn't of your angry face. Insult my loaf and you insult me

This remains unclear, we should hope for many yet they have not made themselves known so far. Come forth friends and let us set about destroying this damned ring before it corrupts us all.

Let us hope that our allies have skills that may aid and protect us in our quest.

Greetings all!

I see evil hides in our midst but they shall not remain unpunished. By the Valar, they shall be unmasked and face retribution!

There is little to be gained in bickering over the number wolves. We can assume there are multiples. The most important thing is to stick together and do not allow them to divide us. There is strength in numbers.

It's all very vague, no player list, an unknown number of wolves, no idea of village roles, but we have Gollum:

"But heed caution, for a twisted creature also lurks nearby, drawn by the scent of the One Ring like a shark to blood. Its very soul is split, warring between a pitiful, forgotten past and the monstrous craving for its "Precious." This tormented being will stop at nothing to reclaim what it believes is its own.""

Could Gollum be the SK?

You mean the descriptive flavoured text at the start? There's more to the OP than just that? You definitely haven't read it so🤣

Here I'll even point out the repeated mentions for ya

Quote:The Fellowship wins by eliminating all the Wolves and successfully chaperoning the One Ring to the fires of Mount Doom, cleansing Middle-earth of its greatest evil.
This sacred duty falls uniquely to the Hobbits among you, a burden few can comprehend.
Should the line of Ring-bearers be extinguished, the quest to destroy the One Ring fails, and with it, all hope for Middle-earth.
Yet, the Ring itself is a persistent and powerful force; even if its current bearer falls, its fate may not be sealed, and its dark influence may still be resisted.

The Serial Killer wins by gaining parity with the village & wolf teams, claiming the ultimate prize for themselves amidst the fiery ruins.

So how, if you have read the post have you discerned there's only one wolf? You were able to determine there's a singular SK, why is it different for the wolves?

And for the record, it's not 'bickering' to point out a falsehood in someone's statement, it's trying to understand why someone would post something that is obviously wrong. If that's bickering then I guess we're all better sitting by the campfire singing Kum by Yah and posting thematically while the wolves and SK systematically wipe out the village.

Yes. The mention of Precious and pitiful past, Gollum is the SK. I know the lore pretty well so happy to answer any queries about how the OP is worded if you want.

FYI the first paragraph is just the intro to Lord of the Rings, describing how the ring came to be. Sauron may not even be a wolf in this as he's not in physical form. He might be, but it's not certain is all I'm saying.

Especially as it's based on the first book/movie which is primarily to do with Saruman and his Uruk Hai as the "physical" baddies. A few goblins and a cave ***** too along with an encounter with the Balrog.

Chuck that first paragraph into Google, even the first line and it'll spit the whole thing back to you. It's just flavour.

The game related stuff is further down, which is why people need to read the whole thing.

We know the character identity of one wolf, that is all I was saying. Seesh. You seem to think because I said 1 wolf is mentioned in the post, that I am saying I think there is only 1 wolf in the game? You are wrong, again, read my post

I haven't discerned there is only 1 wolf. I said there is only 1 wolf mentioned in the original post. You obviously haven't been able to find another name mentioned?

I never said anything about not bickering. Take that up with Vernon. They dont want to be bickering or talking about the number of wolves

Perhaps bickering was a poor word choice. I meant no offense to either of you. I have no issue talking about the number of wolves. I was just pointing out that arguing about whether there's only one wolf seems a little pointless as we know that isn't likely at all. As I said 'We can assume there are multiples.'
So Im not exactly shutting down chat around wolf numbers.

If I may be so blunt the books are hugely overrated. The amount of time spent describing leaves falling from the trees and fluffy irrelevant shite is insane.

Tbh there isn't much apart from the identity of the SK.

And that people can be corrupted but there's not much detail on that. Possible conversion. Nazgul blade maybe? That's just speculation though.

It also seems that only our hobbits can be ring bearers. So should Frodo fall, the ring will pass to another hobbit. If the hobbits all die, we're screwed as part of the village win con is to successfully get the ring to Mordor.

So nobody should reveal their character under any circumstances.

The early back and forth between Ina May and Pat did raise a question for me.

@Pat the Baker who is the Wolf that was named in the OP?

I'm taking Sauron as a wolf from the OP.  Although Ina said thats flavour. I dont know Lord of the Rings so I was reading it purely as an opening post, and that Sauron is a wolf.

I'm taking Sauron as a wolf from the OP.  Although Ina said thats flavour. I dont know Lord of the Rings so I was reading it purely as an opening post, and that Sauron is a wolf.

I would agree with Ina about it being flavour, and the follow up post they made regarding the Sauron not being a physical being.

The OP is lacking on details just the way the mods want it to be, they want us to be confused, and at each other by omitting such details. We don't even know how many players there is, there are 33 names on the lynch form. Were we to believe that to be true figures, I would put the number of baddies as possibly 6 including an SK. Sauron might well be one of those but I wouldn't put it as 100% certain that they are a wolf

Personally I think that lynch form just another ruse by the mods to confuse players.

There a minimum 5 post per day requirement so any not posting will be mod killed.

What makes you think the mods have put extra names on the form?

Game is broken.
Quote:The game thread opens on Sunday, October 12th (Day Zero), with the first official day beginning at 10am on Monday, October 13th (Day 1)
 Day zero. In the OP.

That should be fixed, then we do a rerand.

The OP literally mentions that the game will be shrouded with deception.

"Be warned, the path to victory is shrouded in deception"

So that along with not naming the players in the OP or the numbers of wolves roles etc makes me think the form isn't a true representation of the player list.

But look, it's only a theory, and could be wrong which is why I used those numbers to estimate the likely number of baddies

I would think some extra names on the lynch form too.
Flavour kills could get rid of some. Modkills for lack of posting as a warning to the rest of us could be possible too

You can rant in your wolf room.
