The squads are starting to be announced now and it's under 2 weeks until the most maligned World Cup in history finally kicks off.

So obviously we will have to have a game to mark the occasion!!


Welcome to the Forum of Games World Cup Pool - a game designed to add a little bit of spice and interest in the tournament.

To enter you need to pick TWO teams (8 in total) from each of the four pots (based on the actual World Cup seedings) and answer the bonus predictions!

Scoring:
2 points for a group/knockout win
1 point for a draw (normal time only)

25 points for each team selected that qualifies for the knockout stages
5 bonus points for each Pot 3 OR Pot 4 team selected that qualifies for the knockout stages
25 points for each team selected that qualifies for the quarter finals
50 points for each team that qualifies for the semi finals
50 points for each team that qualifies for the final
50 points for the winning team
10 point bonus if selected team wins the 3rd/4th place playoff

If anyone can think of anything else for a bonus before it kicks off let me know and I'll add it in.

Now all the above sounds complicated but it isn't really. Simply pick two teams from each pot - you can post them on thread here or PM them to me whichever people prefer before the first game kicks off on Sunday, 20th November. I'll set a deadline of 3pm Irish time as the first game is kicking off at 4pm Irish time.

Some stats on the selections:

Brazil were picked by every single entrant making them easily the most popular team

France the next most popular from Pot 1 with 8 selections.

Argentina and Portugal have both been selected by two players, Belgium and England just the 1.

Spain and Qatar were not selected by anyone!


Pot 2 then ze Germans are our second most popular selected team - 12 out of 14 entrants picked them.

Netherlands have 10 selections making them also very popular amongst our players.

Uruguay are next best with two players picking them whilst Croatia, Denmark and Mexico get picked by 1 person.

Nobody fancied the United States or the Swiss!


Pot 3 sees Poland with 8 selections, Serbia with 7 and Senegal with 5.


3 players pick Japan while South Korea and Tunisia have a solitary selection each.

No love for Iran, which based on yesterday is likely for the best...

But Morocco also get no love from our players.


Pot 4 sees Wales the most selected, 10 selections!

Ecuador have 6 people fighting their corner while the Ghanaians and Cameroonians will be cheered on by 3.

2 people plumped for Costa Rica and Australia, whilst the Canadians and Saudis are selected once.

Meaning that every team in Pot 4 has found a home, unlike the other 3 pots!
