Domhnall Gleeson v Mel Brooks - touch choice, but Brooks is more of a director than an actor here, as much as I like his films.

That's a shame. Hawkins is a far superior actor. Even if you hated The Shape of Water, look at some of her earlier stuff. She was great in Happy Go Lucky.

Mel Brooks goes through to the next phase with Sir Ken, Bill and Reese. I'd have found it harder than most of you all did to knock Gene Hackman out in round 1. C'est la vie.

We have just reached the halfway stage of the 1st round.

Tom Hardy v Ron Moody - I don't like Hardy
Jewel Straite v Christopher Walken - I do like Firefly, but c'mon!!
Michael Cera v Kristen Scott Thomas - again, c'mon! no competition here.
John Cazale v Natalie Wood - tougher one here. I don't like a lot of the Cazale movies as I'm not a FFC fan, but I can't deny he was a great actor (taken too soon), and I love everything and everyone in Dog Day Afternoon and that includes him. I've liked a lot of Wood films too though so it was a hard choice.

LOL! I've been asking myself the same question about quite a few of the nominations. To be fair, Cera has been in some good films, but he's just not very good in them - a real one trick pony.

Yeah he literally plays the same character from Superbad to Scott Pilgrim VS The World with a slice of Juno in the middle. You could transport Evan from Superbad into This Is The End and it would be the exact same... And he plays himself In This The End!!!

He was only in 5 movies and they are all classics and rated as some of the best movies ever made. He was terminally ill while making The Deer Hunter, and the production company wanted to fire him because of the insurance costs. Meryl Streep, who was his girlfriend at the time threatened to quit the movie over it and DeNiro apparently paid the insurance. He died soon enough after that.

Dog Day Afternoon is just an amazing film and he is brilliant in it.

You could easily say the same about Connery, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and several others who have appeared thus far though, all one trick ponies, the difference being you happen to like them, you just don't care for Cera - he's good at what he does and I personally prefer his awkward weird style over shouty-mumble blockbuster actors who rely on explosions and guns. Also Youth In Revolt is an underated classic and great showcase for what Cera can actually do when given the opportunity.

I've always really liked him in anything he's been in, personally, even if he is a "one trick pony" according to others (he isn't), and even if he was, it's a good trick.

Cera and Will Arnett were the standouts of Arrested Development for me, which is a testament given the entire ensemble were class.

Forgot about Arrested Development. True, he wasn't bad. Agree that Arnet was great. I've loved him in anything I've seen him in. I wonder will he make an appearance this competition.

x - Interesting support for Michael Cera but Kristin Scott Thomas just prevailed with 2 of the last 3 votes. Tom Hardy and Christopher Walken clear winners as expected.

y - Some strong contenders step into the ring.

By the way thats it until this evening as I'm off to see the new Bond movie shortly.

Results:
Tom Hardy 9 v 2 Ron Moody
Jewel Straite 0 v 11 Christopher Walken
Michael Cera 4 v 5 Kristen Scott Thomas
John Cazale 6 v 3 Natalie Wood

--------------------------------------------------------------

Round 1 - Matches 133 - 136 (I think!)

Gina Torres - Quote - "I don't tweet--I have nothing to say."

[Image: suits-gina-torres.jpg][Image: tumblr_pmwr3i3kRm1tligc7_1280.jpg]
Christoph Waltz - The first actor to win an Oscar for acting in a Quentin Tarantino film. He received Best Supporting Actor for both Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Django Unchained (2012). He remained the only actor to win an Academy Award in a Tarantino film until Brad Pitt won for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2020.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0910607/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

---------------------------------------------------------------

James Garner - When he was starring on The Rockford Files (1974), he appeared in nearly every scene of the series, doing many of his own stunts, including one that injured his back, and it was wearing him out. A knee injury from his National Guard days worsened in the wake of the continuous jumping and rolling.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000023/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

----------------------------------------------------------------
Maggie Smith - Not only does she frequently work with Judi Dench, but they have also both worked with each other's children. Maggie worked with Finty Williams in Gosford Park (2001), while Dench worked with Toby Stephens in Die Another Day (2002). https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001749/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
