Eddie Redmayne was nominated 3 times but when it came to the crunch he got well and truly crunched by Jeff Goldblum. Kerry beat Offaly by 10pts to 2 in the All Nearly Ireland tie.

Our next triple nominated actor appears in this batch so I wonder will Burt Lancaster do an Eddie Redmayne?

James McAvoy v Kristen Wiig - Wiig has her moments, but McAvoy is the anti-Butler. He did such a great Irish accent in Inside I'm Dancing (I'd never heard of him before that) that I actually thought he was Irish. Plus great in lots of other films too.
Jackie Gleason v Burt Lancaster - thought for a second that was Jack Gleeson (Joffrey) that was nominated and was going to pitch a fit. Burt still deserves to go through but at least it's a more reasonable match.
Toshiro Mifune v Veronica Lake - I've tried, but I'm not really a fan of Kurosowa movies. Lake is good though, really liked her in Sullivan's Travels which everyone should watch.
Javier Bardem v Geoffrey Rush - not much to separate them, but overall I've liked more Rush films.

Clear cut wins for James McAvoy & Burt Lancaster and slightly less so for Javier Bardem over Geoffrey Rush. I thought that would have gone the other way.
Toshiro Mifune lives to fight another day after there were a lot of abstentions on his match up with Veronica Lake.

This next one is the final set for Monday folks.

----------------------------------------------------
Results -

James McAvoy 10 v 2 Kristen Wiig
Jackie Gleason 0 v 10 Burt Lancaster
Toshiro Mifune 4 v 3 Veronica Lake
Javier Bardem 8 v 4 Geoffrey Rush

-------------------------------------------------
Round 1 - Matches 53 - 56

Lee J. Cobb - The part of Willy Loman in the stage play "Death of a Salesman" was written specifically for him by Arthur Miller.

Doris Day - Has often cited Calamity Jane (1953) as her personal favourite of the 39 movies she appeared in, and Where Were You When the Lights Went Out? (1968)--which she referred to as "an "alleged comedy"--as her least favourite.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bette Davis - The United States Postal Service honoured Davis with a commemorative postage stamp in 2008, marking the 100th anniversary of her birth. The First Day of Issue celebration took place September 18, 2008, at Boston University, which houses an extensive Bette Davis archive.

Ricky Gervais - Worked as a DJ on London's XFM radio station and managed bands before going into TV comedy. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0315041/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom Conti -   Quote - "Never lose your temper. When the plane is delayed it's not the fault of the girl at the desk. I'm resigned to the fact that everything is out of my control and that air travel nowadays is barbaric."

Tilda Swinton -  Spent two years in South Africa and Kenya as a voluntary worker in children's schools, before studying at Cambridge.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0842770/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark Hamill - He kept his Luke Skywalker boots, from the first "Star Wars" movie. When the movie was re-released to theaters in the late 1990s, his son asked if he could wear the boots to a showing. Hamill said no, telling him he didn't think the boy would "get out alive" if fans knew his boots were the originals.

Lee J. Cobb v Doris Day - because of 12 Angry Men alone.
Bette Davis v Ricky Gervais - was in some great films: All About Eve, and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane are absolutely fantastic
Tom Conti v Tilda Swinton - probably my favourite modern day female actor, a good high proportion of very good films.
Mark Hamill v Jack Reynor - I'm not even a Star Wars fan, but c'mon!!

No whitewashes this time around but only Lee J. Cobb made a decent fight of it before losing to Doris Day.

I think the next offering might be a bit trickier to decide on. Marlon Brando & Paul Newman were both nominated 3 times.
----------------------------------------------------
Results -
Lee J. Cobb 3 v 6 Doris Day
Bette Davis 8 v 1 Ricky Gervais
Tom Conti 2 v 7 Tilda Swinton
Mark Hamill 8 v 1 Jack Reynor

-------------------------------------------------
Round 1 - Matches 57 - 60

William Holden - Won Best Actor for his role in Stalag 17 (1953). When accepting his statue at the Acadamy Awards, simply stated, "Thank you" and walked off.

Kevin Spacey -  After he dropped out of Julliard, he worked as a shoe salesman and a superintendent in his apartment building.

William Holden v Marlon Brando - this is a tough one, but truth be told, I've liked a lot more Holden movies, Stalag 17 and Sunset Blvd were two standout movies.
Kevin Spacey v Colin Firth - this is a tough one, I really like both, but overall I've liked more Spacey movies. If he doesn't go through because of his personal life I'd not be too gutted though as Firth is great too.
James Earl Jones v Paul Newman - another great actor, been in loads of stuff I've liked.
Dan Aykroyd v Kate Mulgrew - because he's on a mission from God.
