Love a decent (or even half decent) action movie
Free Guy was great but I kept having Truman Show flash backs

The Talented Mr. Ripley
Watched it again recently and while I still enjoyed it I did find it more disjointed than I had remembered. The acting and scenery though is excellent all round.

Stupid question from the tech unsavvy - how would one watch BBC iPlayer in Ireland?

VPN I use Nord, tis pretty cheap and handy given it costs less over two years than one years TV licence and I don't have a TV

I just can't cope with RTE player... Forgetting the programme selection, and even accepting some ads, anytime I use RTE it has buffering issues, crashes, when it reloads it doesn't remember where you left off, and makes you rewatch about 10+ ads as you try to get back to where you were in your programme before you crashed...

I've found that on RTE Player, if you change the resolution from Automatic to a specific resolution, it fixes most of the playback issues I've had

Okay, now that I have VPN, where else, other than BBC iPlayer is good to go find stuff to watch?

Oh haha, that was quick, ITV is good too, some of it you can get here on VM anyway I think, but some stuff if you can get it to work, I find it temperamental though. Keeps giving out to me for my ad blocking settings even after I give it free reign
Haven't really branched into the US streaming options yet.

More 4, ITV, Channel 5 have VOD options.
On the US side you have Tubi, Pluto TV, Peacock, IMDB, plus other which are free add supported services. They have some great content but I find they tend to buffer sometimes and the adds can get annoying. Free is free though.
On Canada you have also Tubi, and CTV, plus some others
Australia have a few free services also.
Do you have Netflix? You can get other regional movie libraries with a VPN so many more movies available.
I would recommend creating an account with Justwatch.com (its free) to keep a watchlist and see what is available across multiple regions and multiple streaming services.
PM me if you need help with anything.

If you're a fan of Taskmaster, create a TVNZ account and watch the New Zealand version. The last episode of season 2 is this week, and both series are absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’m hoping for free services and will put up with ads if I don’t have to pay. It won’t be my main source of viewing so I don’t see the point in paying.

@Mam of 4 I think it was you who reminded me why I wanted to avoid Pitch Perfect (cannot find the post now). Well I half saw about three quarters of it by accident, and I have to say Rebel Wilson is not half as objectionable as expected overall, I think I might try watch it properly some time

Gosh no, I still don't like her, but I would say the film is worth watching despite her

Went to see Shang Chi. Really enjoyed it, knew nothing about it going in.
@jp liz v1 that looks pretty good. I thought the title sounded familar so checked it up and sure enough, its a remake of a 40s movie. Not sure if I've seen it but certainly heard of it.
Also read that DeCaprio was attached to the remake before Copper got it. I'm a big Decaprio fan, Copper not so much. Will be watching this one though and maybe catch the original also, thanks for the recommendation.

Have tickets booked to see Many Saints of Newark this Saturday eve myself. Have just finished a Sopranos rewatch in anticipation although I'm led to believe it's not a requirement. Looking forward to it though, even if a movie feels a bit of a cop out for such an iconic series. If they were going back there at all I'd have preferred them to do a mini-series at the least but we shall see I suppose...
This trailer randomly popped up on my twitter feed. Hard to describe it as anything other than Attack Of The Killer Mushrooms but it looks kind of amazing and creepy as hell
Out this weekend apparently

Agree with Kol, that trailer for Nightmare Alley looks great too.
To be honest though, I was sold at "Guillermo del Toro", probably my favourite director

I probably need to surrender my "film buiff" card after admitting this, but ... not terribly keen on del Toro movies.

Ah no, horses for courses. He's got a very unique style that I really love, but I generally love "weird"
I still remember the absolute shellshock I had the first time I saw Pan's Labyrinth. I left the cinema and was unable to talk for a few minutes. That film has everything for me. But then I made my wife watch it and she didn't like it at all. We're still together though
22-09-2021, 11:42 AM
I'm not very familiar with Del Toro. Had to check up his filmography, I've only seen a few of his early movies, like Mimic and Hellboy
I've heard great things about Pan's Labyrinth but not sure if it's my cup of tea.
Crimson Peak looks interesting, added that to my watchlist.
