Peter Cushing v Faye Dunaway - a tough one, Cushing is undoubtedly more classic, but somewhat a one trick pony.  Faye is less classic, though more varied an actor.
Kevin Bacon v Jodell Ferland - Jodell who???
Jamie Foxx v Jonathan Frakes - for obvious reasons
Viola Davis v Bill Pullman - this is a tough one.  Viola is probably the better actor, but I've loved a lot more of Bill's movies, including one of my favourite RomComs in While You Were Sleeping which was simply adorable.

Jamie Foxx
Viola Davis

Bacon v Ferland and Foxx v Frakes were unfortunate draws for the latter in each pairing, coming up against a couple of heavy hitters. Tempted as I was to go for the underdog in each of those bouts with me being a big fan of both Dark Matter and Star Trek: TNG, Bacon and Foxx are just in a different league and I can't deny them my vote on this occasion.

Never heard of her either.  Just looked at her filmography and she's been in a crap load of films and TV shows.  I think the only thing I've seen of them was the one episode of Dark Angel that she appeared in when she was 7.  I think she definitely plays to a completely different demographic. I recommend checking out Dark Matter... 'Tis the type of show I think might be to your liking...

I had hoped that we might pick up on something / someone we'd never seen as part of the 'game'. I'm a big fan of Camille Cottin and she got blitzed earlier. C'est la vie and all that.

My strong aversion to Jack Nicholson  surprises most people. Like Lineman said, no accounting for taste - I would be in the minority for most entertainment genres.

I'm posting this now as I wont have time to do it in the morning. I didnt post it around 9pm like I'd hoped as I was having too much fun at DejaBoo's ms paint reveal for Halloween. It wont close until the afternoon.

I thought the Viola Davis / Bill Pullman & Jamie Foxx / Jonathan Frakes ties were going to be closer particularly as Mr. Frakes bolted into a 3-1 lead early on. Jodell Ferland had a tough break drawing Kevin Bacon. Sometimes the underdog wins and sometimes they dont.

There are some real legendary cinematic names in the next group. This is a tough draw and obviously they cant all make it through.

Katharine Hepburn - Walked around the studio in her underwear in the early 1930s when the costume department stole her slacks from her dressing room. She refused to put anything else on until they were returned.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elizabeth Perkins - Got the role of "Susan Lawrence" in Big (1988) after Debra Winger withdrew due to pregnancy. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001610/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
[Image: Elizabeth_Perkins_Photo.jpg][Image: Ian-McKellen-as-Gandalf-1.jpg]
Ian McKellen - Was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Stratford-upon-Avon at the same time as Sir Patrick Stewart.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005212/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matthew Rhys - He played Justin Price in Columbo: Columbo Likes the Nightlife (2003) and is therefore the final actor to play a murderer who was investigated by Peter Falk's Lt. Columbo.

Ingrid Bergman - Visited Hotel Panamonte in Panama twice, and so the suite was named after her. Flavored with vibrations from Hollywood's "Golden Heyday," her luxurious rooms retain their original décor.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000006/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rock Hudson - Worked as a truck driver when he first moved to Los Angeles, but he spent his spare time idling outside of studio gates and sending photographs of himself to various producers. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001369/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

John Wayne - He considered Maureen O'Hara one of his best friends; over the years he was more open to her than anyone. When asked about her he always replied, "The greatest guy I ever knew." They were friends for 39 years, from 1940 until his death in 1979. Today she is considered by many to be his best leading lady; they starred in five films together. She referred to a wing in her home as the "John Wayne Wing".

Katharine Hepburn v Barry Fitzgerald - because Hepburn is just great and Fitzgerald probably didn’t do any favours to the diddly eye reputation of the Irish in Hollywood.
Elizabeth Perkins v Ian McKellen - Ian has been in some great stuff and not just LotR or X Men.
Matthew Rhys v Ingrid Bergman - because Ingrid is gonna walk it, deservedly so, but Rhys doesn’t deserve a whitewash.
Rock Hudson v John Wayne - cos he’s the goddamned duke!

Quickbeam gave a 'no whitewash' vote to Matthew Rhys who was always up against it having drawn the legendary screen star Ingrid Bergman. Four straight calls really.

Results -
Katharine Hepburn 9 v 0 Barry Fitzgerald
Elizabeth Perkins 0 v 9 Ian McKellen
Matthew Rhys 1 v 8 Ingrid Bergman
Rock Hudson 1 v 8 John Wayne
-------------------------------------------------
Round 1 - Matches 37 - 40

Kirk Douglas - Had appeared in a stage production of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and later bought the film rights. He didn't make a movie of this and eventually turned the rights over to his son Michael Douglas, who was able to secure financing and produce the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975).

Allison Janney - Was discovered by Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward while acting in a play, directed by Newman, at Kenyon College, Ohio. They encouraged her to head to New York City after graduation in order to study at the Neighbourhood Playhouse.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005049/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cillian Murphy - He was planning a career in law until he discovered the world of acting. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0614165/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Jean Simmons  - Amazed with her performance in The Blue Lagoon (1949), William Wyler wanted her for the role of Princess Ann in Roman Holiday (1953), but Howard Hughes, who owned her contract, would not loan her out to Paramount to do the film.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001739/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaitlyn Dever - Quote - "It's really important that people know about it and the issue in schools because it happens every day to people and it really hurts when people get bullied." https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3239803/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
[Image: 8433805.jpg][Image: newFile-13.jpg?width=1200&auto=webp&quality=75]
Diane Lane - She is a favourite actress of director Francis Ford Coppola and has appeared in four films directed by him: The Outsiders (1983), Rumble Fish (1983), The Cotton Club (1984) and Jack (1996). She also starred in the first of two (as of 2021) non-documentary films directed by Coppola's wife Eleanor Coppola, Paris Can Wait (2016). https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000178/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Kirk Douglas v Allison Janney - oh gods, I love Allison, especially CJ Cregg, but I can't vote against Spartacus and the other classics that Douglas has been part of.
Cillian Murphy v Jean Simmons - another tough one, gonna go with Simmons here for being Spartacus' missus, and several other great roles she's been in.
Kaitlyn Dever v Diane Lane - Kaitlyln who?
Jodie Foster v Giovanni Ribisi - because I don't discriminate against much on this earth, but I don't like Scientologists. Plus, like, Jode's great!
