I'll join in.
I generally gravitate towards upbeat mainstream music - with new music the overall sound will make an impression before the lyrics... if I don't like the sound/track/melody, a great song can take a long time to grow on me.
Real dislikes: When it's noise and not music :p (e.g. Slipknot), rap without melodic interest either in the form of a chorus or great track (I quite like some more mainstream hip hop and rnb but not so much rap). Not a huge fan of very 'folk' sounding stuff either...
Open to lots of genres even if they wouldn't be my usual cuppa tea, I have lots of songs I like that don't fit into what I might normal listen to.
