I'm inclined to think the flavour is just flavour. Beast returning to human form isn't based on his death but the filling of the curse-breaking requirements - loving another and earning their love in return before the rose loses all its petals.

it is flavour. without it we would lynch someone tonight for no reason, thereby the village would be the bad guys.
