Huh. There was a 1988 series of Lingo, with a more complicated format. I'm not sure the Wordle guy was even born then
Edit: that was the ITV version. There was an American version that started in 1987, and was originally a combination of bingo and the word guessing bit

Edit 2: Josh Wardle created the first Wordle prototype in 2013, but started the site in late 2021 for his partner.

Agree as well. Usually I rattle through it in a minute but today I had to leave it and come back later
