I had Christmas dinner at the in laws today. They don't do ham!! Just turkey! I was shocked Big Grin
The differences between families and traditions even around food are fascinating. For them, it seems ham isn't the done thing in Bristol apparently.
I tasted chestnuts for the first time today too.

I'd be a nervous wreck having my Christmas dinner cooked by someone that I wasn't sure how they done things. 

I remember having Sunday dinner with my neighbour and she mentioned having parsley mash. I was ok with that until it came as mash with DRIED parsley sprinkled in it.

My favourite part of Christmas dinner is the turkey and stuffing,  so at least I know that'll be fine!  Son's doing the roast potatoes so another safe item pac
I make sausagemeat stuffing .

Well... my mum's a veggie (I was until I was about 20) so no. But generally you're right, not a thing over there. Just turkey would be pretty standard

It's a staple in the OH's family for Christmas dinner where we eat.. I will not go near it, looks rotten, I was brought up on gravy and that's how it will stay! Big Grin

Have never heard of it. My family's traditional Christmas Eve meal depends on a bread sauce of sorts though. You basically chop up half a loaf of gingerbread (we usually use ontbijtkoek, a Dutch breakfast loaf, because it's relatively easy to get), soak it in roughly a pint of "Schwarzbier" for an hour or more. At the same time, you boil up some diced carrots, parsnips (optional), celeriac and a chopped onion until they're almost tender. Then you add the gingerbread mixture, cook until everything is nice and thickened, then you throw in some frankfurters or smoked sausages, and serve the whole thing with boiled potatoes and sauerkraut.

Sorry @thomil, but that wouldn't appeal to me at all. 
I think I'd be sad after a meal like that Big Grin

& frankfurters are the food of the devil!

It is an alternative to gravy for Christmas dinner. I think it's been around for ages in Britain, I've only started to hear about it this last couple of years but I've never had it before.

I see where you're coming from, but it's been in the family since at least the early 1900s, has to be, since my family left Breslau (modern day Wroclaw) in the 1920s as a consequence of the Silesian uprisings. Besides, it's been the taste of Christmas for me for forty years, so I'll stick to that Big Grin
