I'm impressed with Barna, cee_jay and nothing still having 2 lifelines left!

Q10.
A) Definitely not Irving Berlin. He wrote White Christmas. Rhapsody is more light classical I think.
B) I don't think it's Gershwin. Didn't he do Porgy & Bess? I don't think he did Rhapsody too.
C) Copeland, yeah, maybe him, mainly because I don't think it's the others.
D) Porter, no, like Berlin I think he did more "pop songs" (for the era) than classical.

I wish I remembered something else Copeland did so I could compare. I'm still leaning that way. It might just be Gershwin though at an outside chance.

11.17am:
quickbeam Wrote:When I wrote earlier I was about 75% Copeland and 25% Gershwin.

I'm now about 55% Copeland and 45% Gershwin.

Only thing is, if I go Gershwin and it ends up being Copeland I'll be a lot more annoyed at myself for not going with my initial gut than if it go Copeland and it ends up being Gershwin.

If this were real life I'd 100% take the money.

Arrrrrrrrrrrraghhhhh! What are you doing to me Kol?? What am I doing to myself? Tongue

11.26am:
quickbeam Wrote:Okay, I flipped a coin at it came up Gershwin. But I wasn't comfortable submitting that, so I decided on best of three, and flipped twice more and the next two came up Copeland.

The very fact that I didn't want to take the initial result and go for best of three instead, actually tells me more than the result itself. I'm going to go for C) Aaron Copeland, final answer.

After all that, it'll probably end up being Berlin or Porter, but if it is, then I have no regrets over not picking them as they were never in contention.

Now, must - resist - Googling - answer!!

Poor Kol receiving those PMs!

Well done everyone so far, nothing to lose tomorrow, though everything to gain.

I wouldn't know the answers to half of these questions if they weren't in front of me Big Grin

See you in the morning

Fanfare for the Common Man is probably Copeland's best known work.  Emerson, Lake and Palmer did a version of it in the 70s.  The video was shot in the partially built Montreal Olympic stadium iirc.

No, ruled out Berlin and Porter quickly.  I was 50/50 between Copeland and Gershwin.  Well, a little surer about Copeland, which is why I went with him in the end.  Ah well.  I didn't need that €16K anyway Smile  I 100% would have taken the money if it was real life.

I was between Gershwin and Copeland also. Berlin and Porter were more show tunes and Broadway so were ruled out. I thought the piece was kinda classical jazz, which kinda fitted with Gershwin, but didn't know Copeland to say for sure. Poor @Trigger got my ramblings on the above, but it helped me get my thoughts down in writing and come to a conclusion.

My logic too, and I almost gambled on Gershwin but bottled it. Thanks for the help @Leg End Reject Big Grin

I'm just lucky because it seems I used flawed logic by narrowing it down to Berlin and Gershwin. Blush

I'm usually good at music questions

Ask the Audience
Which is the least populated US state?
A. Alabama 0%
B. Wyoming 25%
C. Delaware 8%
D. Montana 67%

Trig and LER answers not included as they asked the audience. 12 answers received for the audience.

RE: Who Wants To Be A FoG Millionaire? - quickbeam - 28-10-2021

Wow, tight at the top between Barna and Cee-Jay, same number of lifelines too.

RE: Who Wants To Be A FoG Millionaire? - quickbeam - 28-10-2021

My rationale was that Alabama was far too big. Delaware was high density but a small state so a potential candidate, but probably not. Which left Montana and Wyoming. I thought Montana was more mountainous (it's right there in the name) and would therefore have less population.

RE: Who Wants To Be A FoG Millionaire? - Leg End Reject - 28-10-2021

Fair play to Barna and cee_jay, may the odds be ever in your favour!

RE: Who Wants To Be A FoG Millionaire? - nothing - 28-10-2021

Feck! 50/50 got it to Wyoming and Delaware, and Delaware was my gut instinct. But I did think it was just in my head because Biden was there a few days ago. Ah well, 32k will get me a few nice treats!

RE: Who Wants To Be A FoG Millionaire? - Leg End Reject - 28-10-2021

I had it between Wyoming and Montana for no real logical reason, but thought it better to check and try to get to 64k before banking.
