It makes you dizzy, be aware!
And if that bouncing causes grief
Try F-o-G for quick relief 🙂

There once was a * limerick poet from Limerick

* Limericks are 5 lines (1st, 3rd and 5th lines to rhyme with each other, and 2nd and 4th with each other) - just saying!  Smile

RE: Line by Line Limericks - NNAHere - 21-02-2025

Is a rhyming pattern of lines 1,2 and 5 also OK with lines 3 and 4 separately rhyming- so 'cat', 'bat', 'caught', 'fought' and 'that' would be valid?

I thought I relaxed the rules after mod Declans last finger point, but for some reason it doesn't show in the OP, so I re-edited the first post.

Limerick rules are relaxed, let us ode away however we wish.
Any type ode  is valid, it's just for fun anyway.... Like NNA said best,  "...ANY activity should be nurtured and encouraged"

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - DejaBoo - 21-02-2025

I suppose if any one wishes their lines to be Limerick-specific only, just make a note when posting.

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - NNAHere - 21-02-2025

Going with Declan's proposal:

There once was a * limerick poet from Limerick
Who lived- all alone- on a farm.

My bad - I should have said that in a classic limerick 1st, 2nd and 5th rhyme with each other, and 3rd and 4th rhyme with each other. I need more sleep!

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - NNAHere - 21-02-2025

OK- so here's the unbelievable story I heard of of that cute Limerick limericker:

There once was a * limerick poet from Limerick
Who lived- all alone- on a farm.
Tired-out parents of babies would say to him "Pick
Us a verse that can babies becalm."
"We'll pay you with money if it does the trick.
Sleepless nights are doing us harm".

So that clever old bard- he'd think for a while
And then write up some lines for those folk
And the money flowed in- he got rich, lived in style.
Ate good food, drank good wine, never broke.

And to keep up this business of writing some verses
This bard used to visit the mothers.
When the fathers were out- my goodness, oh curses!
Soon more babies would follow the others....

======================================================

Starting again from Declan's initial line, this time aiming for a shared effort:

There once was a * limerick poet from Limerick

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - jp liz v1 - 21-02-2025

There once was a poet from Limerick
I am going to name him Mick
He was jolly and fun
Always out in the sun
Rhyming his poetry and throwing a brick (I know shockingly bad 🙈)

Next try

There once was a poet from Cork

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - Declan A Walsh - 21-02-2025

There once was a poet from Cork
Who liked to write in the dark

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - NNAHere - 21-02-2025

There once was a poet from Cork
Who liked to write in the dork
One day for a bet
Or a dare- I forget
This poet wrote up a crude 'jork'.

OK. A new line

A young woman who hailed from The West

Went out with a bloke who wore a vest
And later that night

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - Declan A Walsh - 23-02-2025

Went out with a bloke who wore a vest
And later that night
It felt a bit tight

Went out with a bloke who wore a vest
And later that night
It felt a bit tight
And that's why they both got undressed.

There once was a sleeven politician from Kerry
Who liked to eat berries
He rent out houses to people fleeing war
Who also arrived with a car
Now in a government seat and hairy

(Can you guess the Healy Rae)

But they're one post from utter disaster.

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - jp liz v1 - 23-03-2025

On the banks of the River Maine
Danny Healy Rae wearing a gold chain
Trying to be cool, part of the hood
He lights a fire with wood
But thankfully it was outed by rain

(I looked up that river as I thought in France but it is in Kerry, geography is clearly not for me  Big Grin)

Conor in The White House with Trump

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - NNAHere - 23-03-2025

Conor in The White House with Trump
Just watching those thugs fist bump
Would have you believe
Common sense is on leave
And the Axis of Evil's got plump.

====
How about trying this:

I once met a MAGA supporter

RE: Line-by-Line Limericks 'n Odes - NNAHere - 24-03-2025

I once met a MAGA supporter
Who'd spend the day fighting with you.
I wished that they'd try to deport her
And save us the nonsense she'd spew.

It turned out the Trumpian tariffs
Took cash from the supporter's purse
"That robber. I'm calling the 'shariff'"
"His actions have made my life worse!"

The lesson's now clear to that voter.
"The Don is a fraud and a cheat."
To finish I'll simply just quote her:
"That conman just thrives on deceit."

Where oh where has our little dawg gone?
It's not just dawg- there's no one on.
The site's deserted, just tumbleweed
Each passing day I watch it bleed.
A shame- it seemed to have potential
But active members is essential
And that's the thing- most have just 'dawgged'
They've upped and left and off they've logged.
