So how about that sportsball team? Thought we could have a football chat thread here as well maybe for the new PL season which starts in oh... less than 2 weeks!

Oh for fack sake.. I thought I got away from Modding Soccer here.. pac

But in all seriousness...

I'm a Liverpool fan. Very excited to actually have defenders this season! I think we'll be very good again this season, hopefully in contention. If City really do go and buy Kane and Grealish though then it's hard to see anyone staying too near them. Makes the league a bit of a joke if they spend that sort of money
I think they will get one... more likely to be Kane imo given the more recent goings on at Spurs.

But Levy is a tough man to deal with and Harry might have to hang on for another season...

As for Arsenal, we still need an Attacking Midfielder at the very least - likely to be Odegaard given he's seemingly available for 35 mill... but I kinda want Maddison if we can afford him tbh
Massive premium on Maddison because he's English though. Apparently we were looking at Bowen from West Ham for 40m. Good player, but that's crazy money

We've already got the full 17 non-homegrown player quota though, so we can't sign foreign players unless we sell some
Soo... How bout that sportsball
Two great signings for Man Utd. And that horrible chevrolet sponsor is gone, good times

Realistically I think it'll be another season where reaching the top 4 will be the extent of our success, but I hope they push on and prove me wrong

I'm more optimistic than you!

I expect City to win, but I don't think it'll be a massive gap. Us and Chelsea on 2nd/3rd, and I think signings in the next few weeks will go a long way to settling that. United 4th, comfortably ahead of 5th
I’m going to miss Grealish at Villa, the way he plays combined with being the local lad captaining the side managed by Dean Smith whose auld lad was a Villa fan and steward… it just made it easier to ignore the corporate machine football is and buy into the emotional element more like when I was younger.

He and City will tear it up and I don’t wish him any bad fortune for leaving but one of these days I’d like to see a player in a situation like his turn down the advances of the big boys and say nah I don’t want to leave, I’m happy here. He would have been the King of Birmingham and Villa would have given him 200k a week but I understand almost no pro footballer is going to do that so can’t really blame him.
I feel sorry for you guys that you don't get to experience the unbridled joy that is Bielsa-ball as a Leeds fan Big Grin

I know there are plenty of Leeds fans who think that European football is achievable and should be the aim next season, but tbh I'd be more than happy with top 10 again and then pushing on for European football the following year.  The squad is still mainly players who won promotion from the Championship, and while they were superb last season, the squad is still a couple of players short for a real challenge on the big boys imo.  After getting a left back, we really need a centre midfielder, and another striker as a back-up to Bamford would be great.  However there are some really exciting players coming through the U-23s, so hopefully some of them will get a chance this season.

As for Grealish, I can see why he'd go to City, but for Villa fans it would be the equivalent of Kalvin Phillips leaving Leeds, so I do feel for you guys.  That day will come too, so in the meantime we'll just appreciate him while we have him.
Chin Up BH, looks like Ings is coming your way now along with Bailey and the already purchased Buendia.

All good a similar amount of money as Grealish is going for, looks like pretty good business on the face of it
I love Villa's business this summer, but I wish they'd have kept Grealish to see how he'd do with the new players.

I've a good bit of family in Birmingham and my grandfather was a mad Villa fan, so I've always had a soft spot for them.
Yeah Ings was a complete surprise to everyone until the club announced it although I did think they had done pretty well with recruitment before that. Nobody in the media was reporting that one at all. Don't think they are done signing players either. Going to probably take Tuanzebe back as 3rd choice CB (and maybe get a 2nd choice GK) but I'd still be hoping for another signing and it could be someone like Ward Prowse who they are expected to go back in for with an improved 30-35m+ bid. Dunno if taking Ings from Southampton will make that tougher though as I can't see selling both of them going down very well with their fan base.

I'd say you might be on point with your predicted finish Zaph. In many ways Leeds overachieved in their first season back but were great however it is much harder to breach the gap between mid table and the top group of teams than it is to jump above the bottom group in the prem imo. Keeping Bielsa has been huge though hes one of those coaches that can make a team much better than they are on paper.
Come on lads, let's cut to the chase here..

Hup the Bohs!

And the thread does…

Ha nah joking always liked Bohs ever since my dad taught in a school that was right next to their ground. Iirc I watched a few games including some Ireland U-21 matches from one of the classrooms that had a great view from its window.
Barca confirming that Messi is leaving the club
Barca and Real both in trouble, will the government bail them out again
A few questions

What’s Harry Kane up to? I just heard he hadn’t turned up for training a couple of times.

Will Stephen Kenny get Ireland anywhere?

Will Millwall ever win the championship?

I'm assuming it's because he wants to play under Bielsa before he retires.  Can't blame him really. Big Grin

Trying to force a move to City. He apparently had a 'gentleman's agreement' with Levy that he could leave this summer... Levy ain't no gentleman though, and he's under contract for three more years so...

Nope, and it's not really his fault. We just don't have the players to compete at the highest level unfortunately.

Probably not... but never say never  Tongue

He supposedly has a gentleman's agreement that he could leave for a certain amount but Levy is rowing back on that

Will Stephen Kenny get Ireland anywhere?

I'm a big Kenny fan,  so really hope he will, the players really are not there at the moment, but there is a lot of very good players to come up soon enough. I hope they stick with him anyways.

Will Millwall ever win the championship?

No.
Snap!
Jesus that was some mindmeld pac
Haha you two
City have just announced the signing of Grealish. 6 year deal.
They surely won't go for Kane now this year anyways, I always felt it would be one or the other.

Messi on a free though... I can see it happening
There is no way they will be signing Grealish, Kane and Messi.

Grealish is UK transfer record
Unless Barca manage to somehow hold onto him, the only real options for Messi are City or PSG.  If City were somehow thinking they could get Kane as well, I'd say those funds will be swiftly diverted to an attempt to attract Messi.  That really leaves Kane in limbo, wouldn't be surprised to see him still at Spurs next season.

I was reading today as well that Kane extended his holiday against club wishes and is now not available for the first two PL games...
PSG already in talks with Messi

A number of ways you can look at it. Is his next move for football reasons? You would go to Eng, Germany, or Italy. Even back to Arg to win tophies. You could argue PSG winning the CL is a challenge, which is fair enough.
Is his next move for money? Obvious choice is PSG or China (doesn't look like Man City can even aford him)
Thing is, he makes more on endorsement than wages per year, money shouldnt really be a factor, he is already sorted for life.

As someone mentioned, a wasted talent in a nonsence league
Didn't he agree to half his salary with Barca?
I know that's still a crazy amount of money, but I think the issue is that they're pretty much at their salary cap without him and can't register him without selling a few players, even if he took next to nothing. They obviously thought there'd be interest in the likes of Coutinho but it's not happened. They've been run so badly it's not true, it's all their fault and not his, from what I can see

Griezemann is on something mental like 700k per week too. I'm sure Coutinho is costing them a fair penny along with Dembele, all of who they want to move on but can't for wage packet reasons

Yeah, heard similar, they just threw crazy contracts at people
There's rumours they haven't registered Aguero and Depay yet, would be insane (and hilarious) if they screw that up too

His agreed contract seemed to be all about getting around financial issues. It was halved but was a five year contract with an MLS clause where he could leave to go there after 2 years but would still recieve his full contracted wages for the 5 years.

At least something akin to that where they would essentially still be paying him his same wages from the past few years but spreading it over multiple years so as to look better in their accounts.

Terrible transfers and then the failed super league combined with giving insane wages to the likes of Griezmann have left them in an awful hole. How do they try to get out? By digging more. Signing the likes of Aguero on big wages before they even confirmed they could afford Messi was mad. If you can't afford him don't sign his mates
Fun last man standing sign ups here
