Not that it matters, but did the Killers not get 9 votes?

You're right, they did get 9, sorry
Solid final, it's gonna be a really close choice...

Avril
Killers

My own Top3 of this game have been:
Fame
Evanescence
Daughtry

That Daughtry song is pure meh. Sounds like a million other American rock songs
Before we get into the excitement of the Winner Reveal, just want to say thanks @Kol for running another well-oiled machine of a tournament - its been a really fun one.
I would like to add my thanks too @Kol - well done. There was a good mixture of songs (the good, the bad and the ugly!). There were quite a few surprises along the way such as Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush getting knocked out in round 2, the Undertones' Teenage Kicks not getting a single vote in the semi-final and certain songs progressing as far as the last eight or the semi-finals. I wonder what the outcome of some of those close matches would have been had more people voted at the time. None of my nominations made it to the semi-finals, but they were all good songs that were left. My last remaining nomination was in the last eight - Runaway by The Corrs. I was surprised it got that far. I voted for all of the final four at least once (Complicated!) during the tournament.
Thanks @Kol a tough final to decide

The b sides and second singles would certainly lead to interesting songs, it might be difficult though to find lists online (a quick Google does give some b side lists). To find the real hidden gems you might need to do significant research

Have we done UK number 2s? I think it was mentioned before.

I know different versions of Number 2s (including UK Number 2s at Christmastime) was discussed by both of us. It hasn't actually been done yet though. I think the most interesting one for variety would be songs that reached a high of Number 2 in the UK/Ireland/US. Then there is the one I mentioned in the Suggestion Box - songs that were at Number 2 in the UK on Christmas Day. In those cases, they could have reached Number 1 at some point as well, but not for Christmas Day.
Best music VIDEO ever?
Still a few to vote so will keep this open for a bit

Votes are in, here we go

Thanks for playing everyone, its been fun. I will be back soon with another

With a 6-3 win, FoGs greatest debut single is....

The Killers - Mr Brightside

Although I ultimately went with The Cranberries in the final vote, The Killers were one of my nominations so happy to see it take the win.
Delighted it won!
Thanks to @Kol and to all that nominated songs. I didn't nominate any but enjoyed listening to and voting each day.
Thank you very much for organising this Kol!!!

A great winner I think, a classic song of the 00s. I guess most of us have dance to it at some point!!!
The Cranberries was my winner,  impossible to ignore  Big Grin

Thanks @Kol and everyone as I have rediscovered gems and discovered some new gems
I think the right song won, while I love the Cranberries I feel they get a lot of deference nowadays for obvious reasons. Both absolutely iconic tunes though. Thanks again for running Kol!
Nice one Kol, thanks for running. Where do I collect the prize for my prediction? Wink

Yes you are the winner EN, and like any great song contest, the winner hosts the next one Wink

Would just like to point out that I nominated all 4 of the last 4 songs and 6 of the last 8  Tongue
Now that the dust has settled on this one, lets have a look at what we could run next.

Best B side or best album track (think I had this category in my walrus game) might be an easier list of songs to think off
Best second single (I could just go with all the second singles from the artists in this game we just ran, that might be interesting to see the difference)
Best music video
Best No 2 (UK,US,Ire) songs to reach a high of no 2 in any of those charts
Best UK Christmas no 2 (maybe run this closer to the time, no need to nominate here)

So when you have time, please send me a list of nominations for any or all of the above. BTW, I don't want to have exclusivity of running tournaments here, so if anyone wants to run any of these or a different one I would be grateful of the break Big Grin
Best second single or best no 2 would be my choices out of those Kol. The issue with the music videos is I'd have to watch them all which is a little bit more difficult at work than popping in the earbuds to listen (I get nearly no time at home at all now to do stuff hence the delay in my Walrus too)
I like the idea of the second single by the same artist as the debut single. . . mainly because I don't have a lot of time to research this properly.
But if we would open it up (and you could give us 2-3 weeks to collect nominations) I can look into it in more detail.
I really like the music video suggestion.

I can't think of many atm but I like the idea
Whichever we decide no doubt I will enter

I do like the video suggestion

Did we do Irish song, as in from an Irish artist or band, I seem to remember entering something or was that a walrus

We did Irish No 1s and I had an Irish round in one of my survive the music games. I'm sure we have had it in a walrus also.

Could be a good idea.
Irish songs only could be fun. I however do not look forward to the inevitable Sinead O Connor VS Dolores O Riordan final Tongue
Could be worse, U2 Vs U2
I will submit songs only from Sinead, Cranberries + solo Dolores and U2 ( and son 🤣🤪 ) so!!!
I'd probably nominate all Dermot Kennedy 😁
Dermo v Hozier 🤣
👌

Sunshine fm played "Nothibg Compares 2 U" this morning on the way to work,  & then The Cranberries "When Your Gone" on my lunch break 🤗

Nothing does compare to Sinead's version of that song, like Johnny Cash with Hurt she made it her own, iconic and raw emotional

You're right Liz. It really is in a league of its own. And timeless.
It was bright this morning but there was a nip in the air. Hearing that song made me feel so content and put me in a good mood.

Then hearing The Cranberries later on had me smiling thinking of Necros post.

Sunshine fm must be watching 😜
