Here we go folks,

As was a Christmas day tradition to sit down and watch Top of the Pops to see which song made it to No. 1, we will now decide which is the greatest to achieve that feat.

We go all the way back to 1952 when the charts began up until last year.

The songs which only had 1 week at the top will fight it out in the preliminary round.

Bohemian Rhapsody will get a bye into round 2 as the song with the most weeks at No 1 combined.

Each round of voting will last 24 hours. I know some round may have a lot of songs but we need to get in as many as possible otherwise the game will last too long. I think you will all know most of them so you might not need to listen to them all to make a decision.
Sounds fun! Thanks Kol!

Will Ladbaby make it four in a row?  Huh

The only defence is that the proceeds go to charity.
Still an absolute abomination though. The UK really has gone to the dogs since I left, I never realised how much I was holding it all together Tongue

More like Ben Whonow? There's going to be a lot of X factor winners who had a number one at Christmas and disappeared into obscurity shortly after in this tournament. LadBaby is shite too but at least it's for charity...
Wow, am, these are tough to choose from for the wrong reasons 🤣

I'm sorry, did you seriously just vote for this rubbish over Rage Against The Machine's epic anthem Killing In The Name?

Is there something inherently wrong with you? Like are you a sociopath or serial killer or something that would explain such a decision?

I just don't think we can be friends anymore. The anti-establishment message in Killing In The Name alone should make it the obvious choice for anyone, particularly when its facing off against that LadBaby tripe... I can't even...

Don't worry, I tell so many people that they're dead to me so often that I usually forget within a few hours  Tongue
When Rage got number one they said they'd do a free celebration gig in London. They were true to their word and I went. For the encore they played clips of Simon Cowell bemoaning the campaign etc before coming on and playing it, it was one of the most euphoric moments I've ever known at a gig, the crowd went absolutely ballistic, it was awesome

@ari101 to show that I'm only half-joking in my disdain at your vote, here's a pop song I've been listening to a lot these days

I do like that song 👻👻👻

Rage Against The Machine
The next round has 32 matches, if I go 16 each day is it too many? That's 32 songs to look at but as I said you will probably be familiar with most of them. Otherwise I can do it over 3 days 11/11/10

Benny Hill - Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West) (1971) Vs Johnnie Ray - Just Walkin' in the Rain (1956) - Actually, the other one is quite good too and I don't think I had heard it before.

Pet Shop Boys - Always on My Mind (1987) Vs Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking (1970)

Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name (2009) Vs Jimmy Osmond - Long Haired Lover from Liverpool (1972)

The Beatles - Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out (1965) Vs Wings - Mull of Kintyre / Girls' School (1977)

Danny Williams - Moon River (1961) Vs The Human League - Don't You Want Me (1981) - I can just tolerate this one but it gets far more airplay than it deserves. The other song makes me feel kind of wistful, even sad, whenever I hear it.

Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone (1985) Vs Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir - A Bridge over You (2015) - Tolerable beats irritating!

Elvis Presley - Return to Sender (1962) Vs Boney M. - Mary's Boy Child – Oh My Lord (1978) - Not mad about either but don't hate them. This one just has the edge.

The Beatles - I Feel Fine (1964) Vs Cliff Richard and The Shadows - I Love You (1960)

The Beatles - I Want to Hold Your Hand (1963) Vs Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas? (1989)

Rolf Harris - Two Little Boys (1969) Vs Harry Belafonte - Mary's Boy Child (1957) - ABSTAIN

Frankie Laine - Answer Me (1953) Vs Matt Cardle - When We Collide (2010) - Never heard this version before, prefer Barbara Dickson's version, but it's pleasant enough.

The Scaffold - Lily the Pink (1968) Vs Spice Girls - Goodbye (1998)

East 17 - Stay Another Day (1994) Vs Al Martino - Here in My Heart (1952) - ABSTAIN

Leon Jackson - When You Believe (2007) Vs LadBaby - I Love Sausage Rolls (2019) - ABSTAIN

Benny Hill - Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West) (1971)

Pet Shop Boys - Always on My Mind (1987)

Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name (2009) - that other song still haunts my nightmares after some lunatic submitted it to a Walrus of mine ages back.

Wings - Mull of Kintyre / Girls' School (1977)

The Human League - Don't You Want Me (1981)

Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone (1985)

Elvis Presley - Return to Sender (1962)

Cliff Richard and The Shadows - I Love You (1960)

Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas? (1989)

Harry Belafonte - Mary's Boy Child (1957)

Matt Cardle - When We Collide (2010)

Spice Girls - Goodbye (1998)

East 17 - Stay Another Day (1994)

Leon Jackson - When You Believe (2007) - Leon is lucky he's up against that LadBaby abomination.

Westlife - I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun (1999) - there can only be one Band Aid...

Cliff Richard - Mistletoe and Wine (1988) - at least it's Christmassy 😂
first two can take a hike. If they were against the 2nd pair, both the second pair would be going through.

Pet Shop Boys - Always on My Mind (1987) Vs Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking (1970)
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name (2009) Vs Jimmy Osmond - Long Haired Lover from Liverpool (1972)
The Beatles - Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out (1965) Vs Wings - Mull of Kintyre / Girls' School (1977)
not really fair, multiple songs against one.

Danny Williams - Moon River (1961) Vs The Human League - Don't You Want Me (1981)
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone (1985) Vs Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir - A Bridge over You (2015)
