Tested positive for Covid? Isolation getting you down? This is the thread for you then Tongue

Wife had a positive hit on an antigen Stephen's Day and I thought I was in the clear till this evening but nope, I've now caught the lurgy. Second time too Angry

Now the fun of booking a PCR begins... Dodgy
I just heard a friend put in coma for long Covid pneumonia as fluid on lungs, has underlying issues

Take care @Necro  and everyone, this variant is spreading mad and fast

I had Covid in February, was in CUH as oxygen was low, the hospital was great, I'm double vaxed and boostered now but no one is safe

For the majority of people Liz Covid will be a mild to moderate illness. Omicron is so transmissible that It may be the variant to create endemicity sooner than expected. Thousands of people testing positive for a virus that creates cold and/or flu like symptoms isn't something to be getting worked up about.

I know but I'm a tad hypochondriac  Blush and worried for family and friends who it could affect severely over other health issues

I can relate to the hypochondria Liz. I get bouts of it myself and it's no joke. Do mind yourself and I include your mental health in that. We get a finite amount of time on this earth and overall it's not a bad place  Shy
I've been super lucky so far. Best friends youngest had a positive antigen this morning, so they've to sort pcr for him.

Friends of friend have it at the moment. Thankfully no one is seriously ill, and hopefully it stays that way.
Well I was sort of expecting it cos it's Omicron and cos my wife already has it. But I only started having symptoms this morning. Scratchy throat, and the sniffles. Basically a mild case of manflu so far anyways. But with being vaccinated and boosted three weeks ago I am not expecting anything more serious.

The isolation is the worst part though, I'd be a social animal most of the time (though not feeling the most social the last week or so for obvious reasons) so that will likely affect me more. Even not being able to nip down to the shop for a pack of smokes is tough, but I did it before and I'll be grand.

Not even the worst thing 2021 has thrown at me so it is what it is.
Yep, that's how I'd describe it. A mild man flu. Not meaning to downplay it as just a case of flu though.

Body ached for two days, had sore throat and cough. No other issues. But I'm perfectly fine now.
Fully vaccinated, no booster yet.

Sick of being in this apartment. I was looking forward to meet the rest of my friends here and now that's all gone.

I might just run out and play in the snow  Smile
Did I hear 10 days isolation being reduced to 5 days now?

and yet for the (many) people in the "minority" (and their families), it's a life or death gamble, all lives matter and this easily transmittable, killer virus is fully worthy of concern and distressing for the rest of us...

I am sorry to hear about your friend,  jp liz -  so very sorry.

Yep.
I panicked when I read about flight cancellations but it's all down to staff getting sick, not airlines cancelling them as a safety measure.

So if you are vaccinated and asymptomatic you can isolate for five days.
That's here in the US. I don't know what's happening in Ireland.

Sorry about your friend Liz

I believe that's if you've no symptoms and a few negative antigens after close contact.

But it's impossible to keep up sometimes!

All lives do matter. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you and others like you Boo, where Covid could have serious consequences for you. Thankfully the vaccines seem to offer some protection against serious illness. I'm not a doctor or scientist so can't say how effective they are against particular types of illness.
For anyone who is very worried then I hope they get some comfort from all the steps they take to mind themselves.

Death often comes before old age. We know not the hour or the day. Some people in my family are currently receiving treatment for cancer. I wish I had a magic wand to grant us all immortality or at least a full and healthy life.

Only in the US. For a positive PCR test here it's still 10 days.
If you're a close contact it's 5 days and three negative antigen tests assuming you are vaccinated.

For kids under 12 though which is our issue they still need two negative PCRs and it's 14 days.
I'm doing my final antigen test today of 3, and if it is negative I can go back out in the world tomorrow, and finally head home to Dublin!
It is only 5 days for a close contact if you are boosted over a week. It is 5 antigens and 10 days if not!
It was a tense Christmas. My cousin rang my mam on Christmas Eve and said we are outside! Mam invited her in, and she comes in with her 2 teenagers. I had words with Mam while making the tea then, and mam goes oh it's only your cousin! Obviously we wake to a text message on Christmas Day saying the 2 teenagers had positive antigens. Why she couldn't have tested them before going round 5 different houses I don't know.
We haven't gotten the text from HSE saying we are a close contact yet and our 5 days is nearly up!

Probably cos it's impossible to book a PCR at the moment, I need it for work (not that I was going back anyways) and was up till 1am last night booking one and this is in Sligo, I can only imagine what it's like elsewhere!

imknew you had had it twice
Necro , hope you all aren't hit too badly with it .

Liz , fingers crossed that your friend makes it through ok .

Son in law got it late November , the chap is never sick . He was floored with it , breathing seriously affected , at one point my daughter thought she'd have to ring for an ambulance . Thankfully the worst passed . So then in turn two granddaughters and daughter had it also .
What may be a flu for some can be the opposite extreme for others .

Mind yourselves as best as ye can folks .
First time out of the apartment, to do another test.
It was nice to get fresh, very cold, air.

Threw some snow balls

Yes PCR testing hitting breaking point everywhere I'd say and apparently each test costs HSE €200
Friends of ours have it. One is overweight and with health problems, his symptoms are mild, sort of head cold like. His usually healthy wife is quite sick. It's gas how it impacts different people differently. I would love to know more about why that happens, same way as some of us were fecked after getting the vaccines but others were fine.

I've been hit bad in the past with flu and infections. Sinuses aren't right since 2018 when I got awful sick. The three vaccine doses caused me to be unwell. I've a feeling that if I get Covid now it would be like the flu and if I got it prior to vaccines I'd be fecked. Not ICU fecked but maybe a stay in hospital needed.
I'm free today! All antigens were negative, and did an extra bonus one this morning just to be sure. I now get to see Mr. CJ later today for the 1st time since Christmas Eve morning. Also visiting my brother and seeing his kids.
Three adults in this house were deemed close contacts, all of us had our booster over a week before the exposure so don't know if that helped or what?
Dunno cee_jay, I'm boosted and had it previously and I still popped positive on an antigen. It's a weird disease.

PCR done this morning, got there a bit early and they sent me straight in, done in 5 mins. Glad I did cos there was a queue out onto the main road when I was coming out!
I have it for the third time (two officially). Convinced I had Delta variant as well but didn't get a test. The first one in 2020 was a bastard. I was in a bad way from that. Omnicron is weak sauce I've had worse colds. Love a bit of covid I do
Also if you need to book a PCR they updated around 15 minutes past midnight last night so try around then

Exact same here, like a bad cold. First dose in 2020 pre vaccine was much much rougher, wasn't able to climb stairs without getting breathless for a few weeks
Friend managed to get whole family tested at one appointment for her kid
Sake. The plague has descended. Isolating now for a head cold. So not like the flu as I predicted! Big Grin
Test came back negative. So looks like I'm flying back to Ireland.

But deep deep deep down, I wanted to stay here  Tongue

Would the cold not get to you? A Chicago winter is meant to be brutal.
You better have your shorts and t shirt ready when you get back home, it has been mild verging into balmy for a while now. Cool
PCR came back positive anyways. Yay for isolation....

It was snowing here all day on Tuesday, but it's all mostly gone now. Last week temperatures rarely went over 0, it was freezing in the city the weekend I got here.
I couldn't do most of the things I had planned to, so may as well stay and do stuff here  Big Grin

Someone give that cat some catnip!
2 of 5 tests back with my friend, both positive. Likely the other 3 will be too.
We went for a walk in a big open space. You'd go mad staying stuck in.

Was it 5 antigen tests your friend did nothing? I can't even get 1 PCR. I rang my doc on Friday to be referred but God knows when that will come. I might just book a private one. I wouldn't bother only I need it for work.

PCRs - they managed to get one appointment for the youngest lad, and they did the whole family there. All 5 positives in the end.

Ah I thought it was one person who had five tests   Big Grin They were really lucky to get themselves all tested. Someone I know took her daughter's no longer needed PCR and the test centre made a hoo haa but she persisted and got it done.
Yeah, they got very lucky on the day.
Well, my housemate the antivaxer has tested positive. So now I'm a close contact etc etc.

Mean as it sounds, but it bloody serves him right.
