One week until December (I know, terrifying!) so it's time to roll out...
The Forum Of Games Sheepish Advent Calendar III
...this Time It's Personal!
[
attachment=288]
Like the last two years, there will be one Christmas themed question each day from the 1st to Christmas Eve.
This year however, it's about how well you know your fellow Fogies. For each question I'd like you to give me a yes/no answer. You also have to guess what percentage of people will say yes
For example, if it was still halloween, I may ask "did trick-or-treaters call to your house".
You PM your two answers to me, so perhaps you'd say YES, 40%
You'll score points based on how far off you are.
So if 60% of people said yes, you'd score 20
If you miss a day it's fine, but you'll score 100
Scores will be totted up until Christmas eve, where the player with the lowest score will win a warm glowing pride inside!
Your yes/no answer does not affect your score, so honest answers please! (Although clearly I won't be checking)
Hopefully that's clear.
Now... I was planning on revealing who said yes/no each day. I think that may be more enjoyable and the questions aren't personal at all, they're all trivial fun things. Does that sound OK to people?
The plan is to have the question up about 9am each day, reveal about 9pm
No sign-ups needed, just answer once the questions up. But obviously build-up and banter is highly encouraged
Haha could be another spoon in my future
looking forward!

Depends how well you know the rest of the forum
I snuck into the boards Christmas forum to tell them. Registering for a new site might put them off but we've had a good few of them before and I think they've liked it

So, if the yes/no answer doesn't matter, does YES, 40% = NO, 40%? Or would YES, 40% = NO, 60%?
Object being to score as little as possible?
(24-11-2021, 05:08 PM)quickbeam Wrote: [ -> ]So, if the yes/no answer doesn't matter, does YES, 40% = NO, 40%? Or would YES, 40% = NO, 60%?

Yep, score as low as you can.
Effectively, in my example, the question is "what percentage of Fogies had trick or treaters call to their house?" and you need to get as close as possible to the right answer
I just don't know the correct answers so need everyone to tell me
And "yes, 40%", "no, 40%" would both score the same. Only the 40% bit affects your score
(24-11-2021, 05:19 PM)E.N. Wrote: [ -> ] (24-11-2021, 05:08 PM)quickbeam Wrote: [ -> ]So, if the yes/no answer doesn't matter, does YES, 40% = NO, 40%? Or would YES, 40% = NO, 60%?

So the percentage part is how many people I think will answer Yes, regardless of whether I answer Yes or No?
Ah, okay, I missed that. Crystal clear now!
(24-11-2021, 05:28 PM)quickbeam Wrote: [ -> ]So the percentage part is how many people I think will answer Yes, regardless of whether I answer Yes or No?
Exactly
Let's try a mini fake reveal, see if it helps. Here 60% of players said yes, so the scores are...
Player | Answer | Guess | Score |
Alice | Yes | 10% | 50 |
Barry | No | 20% | 40 |
Carol | Yes | 30% | 30 |
Dave | Yes | 40% | 20 |
Emily | No | 50% | 10 |
Fred | Yes | 60% | 0 |
Geraldine | No | 70% | 10 |
Harry | Yes | 80% | 20 |
Ingrid | Yes | 90% | 30 |
James | No | 100% | 40 |
...so Fred is winning after one question
Fair play to Fred. it's about the only thing he'll win
All the little ones wait excitedly for the Elf On The Shelf to appear , us big ones wait for the Advent Calendar!
The excitement is real
How am I only discovering this now

Well this is awkward, I thought we'd agreed no presents this year
The presents are either elation and pride or despair and shame!

That old chestnut of "Your presence is enough presents". Didn't even get a selection box

We kick off tomorrow!
Keep your eyes on this thread in the morning for your first question, and get your entries in then. The more the merrier so do get involved, I promise it'll be fun
(promise is in no way binding, enjoyment levels may go down as well as up)

EN Advent time is here, so excite!
Count me in, EN Thank you!
A Christmas Tree fell on me today. I've since decided this is the Christmas equivalent of the bird pooping on your head superstition, therefore it will bring me good Christmas luck and I'll win the advent sheep this year!!!
Yep sounds legit to me.
It's a new one to me that a bird shitting on you is good luck!

Good plan only for the fact that I'm going to win it this year
second place suits you though
It's like Christmas Eve , the excitement building, wondering what the morning will bring , will E.N. be nice like Santa or more Grinch like? Tune in bright and early to find out

I suspect on day one he's this kinda Santa..
But by about day 18 he's this kinda Santa..
Assume the questions will appear in this thread?

I think 18 is generous, I normally start regretting my decision after about a week
(30-11-2021, 08:47 PM)DvB Wrote: [ -> ]Assume the questions will appear in this thread?
They will indeed, about 9am each morning.
Might be earlier the next couple of mornings as I'm off work so have to write them on the mobile anyway
