Hello everyone, and welcome to a brand new episode of House Of Games

Who will walk away with the coveted House of Games trophy and complimentary Luggage Set, and who will walk away with the dreaded Passport Holder?

We have five rounds - and potentially one tie-breaker - to determine the answer

If you’ve seen House Of Games before then you’ll get the idea of what’s going on, for anyone who hasn’t seen it, I’ll do my best to make it easy to understand

I will post five rounds - four questions per round - and one tiebreaker down below, making a total of 21 questions to be answered

Each round will have its own rules, but basically you just have to answer each question correctly to score points, and the person with the most points at the end of the game wins

Simple, right?

Research IS NOT allowed - that means no Google, Bing, asking the wife, Phone A Friend, etc.

Please submit your answers to me by PM - do not post them on-thread

Sign-ups will be open for one week, and the reveal will (hopefully) take place next Monday

Good luck Smile
ROUND 1 - MOUSE OF GAMES

In this round, I have changed one letter in the names of four TV shows, and created a description of that new programme based on its new name. I will post that new description, and it is your job to determine what the name of the new show is

Two sample questions:

Sample Q1: Combat machines are treated in hospital for their injuries
Sample A1: Robot Ward

Sample Q2: Ryan Tubridy hosts an after-dark talk how in which people try to find love
Sample A2: The Late Date Show

I want the name of the show with the new letter in place, not the name of the original show. And because of the nature of this round, I will be strict on spelling

And remember, no research allowed Smile

Q1: A group of nerds conduct explosive experiments on waste receptacles

Q2: An Irish gameshow in which trickles of water compete to win big money prizes

Q3: This Australian soap’s latest plot twist is inspired by a Stephen King novel-turned-TV series

Q4: A Welsh singer shows no mercy when fighting against fanged members of the undead

-----

ROUND 2 - DISCTINCTLY AVERAGE

In this round, I will post four questions, and you must give your best estimate of what you think the answer is. However, this is a Pairs Game - I will be combining your answer with that of another random player, and the average will be the answer for both of you.

Sample Q: The number of pieces in the Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle set
Sample A: 4,500

If you were to be randomly paired with John Doe, whose answer was 7,500, then your combined average answer would therefore be 6,000

In a slight variation on the actual scoring system, the pair whose average answer is closest to the correct answer will receive two points each. I will also award one point to each member of the next-closest pairs, such that 50% of players will receive points in this round. Don’t worry about it, that’s for me to figure out Big Grin

And remember, no research allowed Smile

Q5: The straight-line distance, in kilometres, from Malin Head to Mizen Head

Q6: The population of Connacht, according to the 2016 Census

Q7: The total length, in seconds, of the Taylor Swift album “1989”

Q8: The most-Liked Tweet in the history of Twitter has how many Likes?
ROUND 3 - KING OF THE JUMBLE

In this round, I will post four pairs of questions. The answers to those questions are anagrams of one another. To win a point, I simply need you to give me the answers to both questions

Sample Q: Giving someone anaesthetic and a farm house
Sample A: Sedating and steading

Again, spelling is very important in this round, and will be strictly enforced

And remember, no research allowed Smile

Q9: Units of electrical resistance and the scale on which hardness is measured

Q10: A British sci-fi show, in which a Time Lord travels through time and space in a TARDIS and
a spin-off of that same show, set in Cardiff, Wales

Q11: Something you make if you have a grievance and a description of someone who obeys all instructions without hesitation

Q12: An American popstar and people whose Protestant faith emphasises the sovereignty of God, the authority of the Scriptures, and the necessity of grace through faith in Christ

-----

ROUND 4 - I’M TERRIBLE AT DATING

In this round, I will give you four questions, and in each case, I want you to answer with the year you think that even took place

Sample Q: When did World War Two end?
Sample A: 1945

Just like Round 2, the person who is closest to the correct answer will earn two points, and I will also award one point to people who are close, such that 50% of players will receive points in this round

And remember, no research allowed Smile

Q13: The first Aldi opened in Ireland

Q14: The Battle of the Boyne took place

Q15: The Giant’s Causeway became a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Q16: The first Gaelic football match took place
ROUND 5 - ANSWER SMASH

In this round, I will post a question which you must answer, and a picture which you must identify.  You must then smash those answers in to one, elongated phrase, blending the end of one into the beginning of the other

Sample Q1: A book full of maps and [a picture of a lasso]
Sample A1: Atlasso

Sample Q2: Santa’s red-nosed reindeer and [a picture of Dolph Lundgren]
Sample A2: Rudolph Lundgren

Sample Q3: Leeds United’s young, Welsh winger and [a picture of James McAvoy]
Sample A3: Daniel James McAvoy

Again, spelling is very important in this round, and will be strictly enforced

As an extra clue, all the pictures in this round were participants in the 2020 season of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here

And remember, no research allowed Smile

Q17: An American basketball icon, who starred in the first Space Jam movie and
[Image: HMlOVan.png]

Q18: YouTubers Gav Free and Dan Gruchy are better known as “The … Guys” and
[Image: kwWfGih.png]

Q19: A UK landmark, found on the coast of Kent and
[Image: mgkfeUD.png]

Q20: Italian football legend who was runner-up in the 1994 World Cup, and won Serie A with Juventus and AC Milan and

TIEBREAKER - WIN WHEN THEY’RE SINGING

If there is a tie for first place, this question will be used to separate the leaders. For this question, I would like you to listen to the first 10 seconds of a song - AND ONLY THE FIRST 10 SECONDS. You must then guess at what time the singer will start singing

Sample Q: “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran
Sample A: 20 seconds

If this question is necessary, whoever is closest to the correct answer will be declared the winner

Remember only listen to the first 10 seconds, and no research allowed Smile

Bravo AJ!! Been wondering myself for a while how to transfer that show on here. Definitely in.
You had me at House of games.. haven't read the questions yet, but I'll definitely get an entry in
I LOVE HOUSE OF GAMES. EXCITEMENT LEVEL IS 100%.

Now to go and read what I need to do. Oh I would like the fondue set please!
Ouch, these are hard!

Questions:
On Distinctly Average, if there are 20 players, then that's 10 pairs, does that mean the pair with the closest answer gets 2 points, and the next 4 pairs get 1 point, and the other 5 pairs get zero?

Are points deducted for wrong answers in Answer Smash? If we don't know are we better off not answering than guessing?

These are a lot more difficult than I'd expected so require some thinking time before I submit. Damn you AJ!!
Jaysus......answers in.
Good work Aaron, especially like the coordination of the celebrity pictures!

Had a scan and got a few. I won't submit until I feel like I've got them all or you call time though Tongue

You're spot-on in regard to the scoring for Distinctly Average

And no, unlike the actual show, I won't be deducting points for wrong answers in Answer Smash Smile

Whew. Because I'm seriously struggling with them. Doesn't help that I didn't watch I'm a Celeb.
I know the celebs. But football? Not a hope of me getting that!
Answers in!
Answers In. That was fun. Always been a big fan of House of Games, although I'm disappointed at the absence of Broken Karaoke... pac
I think a full show of Broken Karaoke would be my quiz show of dreams.
I'm in. Don't think I got a single answer smash!

I'll give the BBC a call, get them on that sh*t.

I hate that round... mainly because I'm so bad at it Big Grin

Broken Karaoke is the greatest game in House of Games with the exception or Answer Smash of course.
I'm pretty bad at Broken Karaoke too, though sometimes I surprise myself by getting it right, especially if they give the year of the song first, as a clue.

The Win When They're Singing round though I have absolutely zero ability in. I think my brain just doesn't work that way. It could be a song I've heard a million times, a song I love to bits, and I still wouldn't be able to gauge when the singing starts. I'm equally bad at the intros round in Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

I know two celebs and two answers. You think any of them marry up though???

(well, okay, one of them does)
I know one of the celebs though I cant remember their name, and thats probably my best round Smile
That was bloody tough!
Holy Moly some of these are awful tough. Never watched this show before but my gosh I'd suck at it... so I'll be flinging in my wild guesses and made up pile of sh*te (sorry Tongue) later, apologies to anyone affected negatively by the crap I churn out pac
Poor aaron having to score this... Big Grin
lol, I know this sin't sheep, but how many aces will be entered into this game! Big Grin
I only knew 2 maybe 3 of the answers, overall. :o Glad I am not the only one!

Apologies in advance for whoever is assigned to team up with me in the pairs challenge, my scores will bring your winning efforts down a notch (or seven).
I'm here for the spoon... some of those I'd absolutely no clue pac
