Let's have a thread to discuss the various elements of the MSPaint game.

Tell us what program/set up you use when painting, how you decide on elements when describing, what your favourite way to play is and any tips!

I was using Adobe Sketch on my tablet for painting but my Adobe subscription is due to run out soon, so have been trying the Huion app, which is great.

I like using layers, putting a rough sketch down, next layer a bit of refining, then more layers with each main element until I'm happy with them, then merge for a final image.

I use imgur to upload my paint then to share Smile
I'm still in hand drawn/painted art mode Big Grin
I can't use MS Paint with a mouse to save my life Big Grin Deja has a nice free app with layering options that I want to get to grips with, as layering is brilliant for allowing adjustments, but she says it can be glitchy, I need to give that another go on the new laptop. (Was it sketch.io?)

I try to make a plan pac vaguely pencil sketch ideas for each of the elements so I work out fitting them all on one page before I commit. I try to include something for every 'thing' described. If the main element seems clear I will try make the pic focused on that, but otherwise it will depend on whether I have a good idea how to draw or convey a particular element how much effort it gets pac

I often google image search for ideas on how to paint things I can't imagine the detail for. I will eyeball images I like while trying to capture the shapes/expressions by hand.

I like when someone gives me some bit of emotive description/active verb, even though they can be harder to draw, as it helps me imagine a more integrated scenario, even if it is a crazy one Big Grin

Whatever media I have handy I am happy to use. Markers are good for speed/clarity, but happy to pull out my paint brushes when I have time.

I use imgbb for hosting as it was the one suggested when I first needed to host a pic Smile
I use paint.net as go to paint program. https://www.getpaint.net/
its free and you can add plugins to add functionality. It does require MS Windows so not linux or mac compatible.

I use discord for image sharing, i just have a discord server set up with just me on it, and i dump all images I share in there and its hosed by discord Big Grin
I panic and try to cobble something together on MS paint! I use it on my desktop and can't draw with the mouse to I will try the apps suggested here.

There was also one Paint 3D that's best forgotten ... Undecided Confused Blush Blush Blush
You're doing great Leggy! I find it really tricky with the mouse, so the tablet is a godsend.
Kills uses mspaint for their beyond brilliant drawings, but I can't imagine how they get so much detail in!
I must look into the ones mentioned above - great idea nothing!

Chromebooks have limited free programs available, so I settled on sketchpad, here: https://sketchpad.app/en/  (I use the free version)... it's easy enough for even me to use, the glitching is not as bad as it used to be, but it still happens often (especially when colour filling and switching tools)  - I get around it by clicking redo when a tool refuses to act right, then refreshing - you take your chances with refresh, as you cant be sure what it retained (but it does temporarily  store your paint in  some previous form so you can go back to it)... but  if you are invested in your paint, save it to your device at frequent intervals (just know the entire image fuses into one layer during the save and there will be no options to move things around in the drawing after)  ....oh good grief, that was a long run-on paragra-sentence - I would break grammerly!

One thing I like about sketchpad is you can "spray on" (such a techy/artsyfartsy term, lol)  translucenty colours to shade (I learn so much from kills paints!) --it also has more options than mspaint -  a wee bit more pencil control, size and textural tools... and.dat.glitch!

I dunno Legend,  that Paint 3d looked cool in the reveal! Not available on chromebook, but I so want to try it!

I am  pure dumb about technology - can only seem to use imgur - do wish it had better organizing tools though! I REALLY don't like how they are beginning to change ownership of how your images are displayed -  seems to be moving away from  embedding to making images only viewable thru their site (as posts, with counted views) - the change is more visible on Boards.
If I'm playing as a describer and get sent an image, do I need to be set up with one of the image sharing websites to be able to view the painting?

I've never used one of them before & don't have any accounts on any of the sites..

No, you should be able to view the image without an account. You really only need one if you're painting Smile
Thanks a lot @nothing

I just wanted to dbl check before the game starts & I end up holding everyone up with something silly like that  Shy
I don't have an imgur account but I can still upload a paint and share the link.

@Spears, as a describer you just need to describe like you're on an acid trip. It's what everyone else seems to do! 🤣🤣

I was wondering if I'd be able to view a painting from just a link that was sent to my inbox.

Or if I could only view it through a link that was sent through one of those sites. & that I might have to have an account set up to view it.

Ive never used those sites so I'm not sure how they work.

But all good now, I understand that I don't need them and I'll be able to view any link sent to me Shy

I upload my paint to imgur, copy the link and send it to the game host, all without an account.

MSPaints are great fun, you should definitely join in!
I use ancient technology from long long ago........ye old coloring pencils and paper  Tongue

Thanks a lot Leg End. I'll have a look over the next few days and see if I can figure it out  Huh

I said aaaaaages ago that I was gonna learn how to paint. But I needed to figure out how to upload pictures aswel, and I just never got round to it.

I love your ancient works of art! Cool

It's more the creativity that scares me lol. Some painters imaginations are so clever.  I'd probably panic if I had to draw anything other than a house and a sun  Big Grin
My last effect was pencil sketch coloured with acrylic paint, marker and a bit of metallic LED cured gel paint 😂😂😂 (Couldn't not give wonder woman some shiny armour/jewellery 😉)

I use https://imgbb.com
Haven't tried any others, so no idea if it's better/worse, but it's very simple Smile
