Review
I heard this was good, I thought that it was more of a kids movie until I realised it was R rated. Set in the backdrop of the Spanish war which mixes in with some fantasy. To be honest, I found the war story more interesting than the fantasy part. The pale man scene though was very haunting. The captain was quite an evil character, this kept me quite interested to see what would eventually happen to him, honestly, I hoped he would have suffered more, what a bastard! So yeah pretty good overall, great visually, great score, a decent story. I do feel however it is slightly overrated. I don’t really follow movie directors though I believe del Toro is one that likes to make movies his own. I'm sure he succeeded here. Glad someone picked this as I had planned on watching it for some time so I got my chance now.
Trivia
Guillermo del Toro repeatedly refused offers from Hollywood producers, in spite of being offered double the budget provided the film was made in English. He didn't want any compromise in the storyline to suit the "market needs".
