Review
Like a lot of us, I had heard of this movie by reputation. It was probably the one that kick started the torture porn genre. Now I have given this a low score which I think doesn’t really reflect how good and influential the movie is but rather that fact that I don’t like the genre that much. The difference I will say in this movie that sets it apart from others in the genre is that most of the disturbing visuals take place in the last 30 mins or so. The first 2 acts are pretty much a tense drama, though you are waiting for the torture scenes as like me, you know that is what the movie is famous for. I won’t lie, it is very difficult to watch. Apart from that 3rd act, the build is tense and has some difficult to watch elements also. I mean a guy who stages a fake movie audition to find a wife, you know he will get what is coming to him. Not a good pick here though I think it is a much better movie than I’ve rated it.
Trivia
Audition was shot in approximately three weeks, which was about one more week than usual for Takashi Miike's films at the time.
