or.... you could, load up on the twinkle lights,  binge watch christmas movies and sing carols to the radio. Big Grin

(I know what you are referring to DoF, just offering a silly alternative that works for me.)
Oh absolutely! Nothing like some twinkly lights and festive movies to warm the heart. There really is a lot of joy to be found in Christmas no matter the circumstances  Shy

Maybe we can persuade daddy to celebrate with the in laws this christmas, and make it a happier time of year.

My parents are divorced so Christmas is kinda tough here too, trying to get around to everybody. My immediate family is small so I hate leaving one of my parents on Christmas day

On the other side my wife has a big family and they nearly always come together at Christmas so we usually end up there

The wife and myself did our first Christmas day on our own last year (with the dog) and it was fantastic. I made dinner for the 3 of us (dog loved it) and we had champagne, wine and vodka.. we were fairly hammered lol

Exactly the same here, lorcand, divorced parents and inlaws big into Christmas. And I'm an only child and my folks live in the UK. Christmas is just an extended guilt trip for me as I try to work out how best to see everyone, I can't remember the last time I even thought about what I'd like.

We have young kids now though, so the focus is switching to them, which makes it a bit easier

Yeah I have the same pre Christmas thoughts as you did, my family are all ireland based so helps a little on that context, but still find it hard

Now that you mention it, on the plus side we are expecting our first child at the end of December, so that will change things... in more ways than one!!  Big Grin

I'm not going home for Christmas this year. It stresses me out.

I went home last month and I've told my parents that I'll be back some time in spring. Apparently it doesn't bother them that I won't be going......  Cry

I imagine they are just happy if you are happy whereever Smile

@lorcand1990 Congrats, that will change xmases forever. Little people are what it is all about. We did last year each alone in our own places and mostly I was just worried about my Dad being lonely. I like a quiet one, have a beverage and no where to go, twinkly lights on a tree and a warm fire. I visit friends in the days before and after but I am happy to leave the parties to other people. It's always a reminder of when times were better so I usually feel a huge sense of relief by the 27th pac

RE: We don't know where we are, but at least we know what to do - Diamonds of Frost - 07-10-2021

I'm starting to get the baby questions now. I was in a shop recently buying a bracelet to wear on my wedding day and the sales assistant asked if I was planning on having a baby after. Because baby can wear bracelet or something bla bla.
I was at the doc a few weeks ago and she asked me twice. Like getting married doesn't suddenly mean I'm not pushing 40!!

Womens are gas.

Haha, I'm pushing somewhere in between those two numbers and have no plans. I also have lots of single or at least not married childless female friends of a similar age who see this as a normal state, but some family and also strangers are gas with their marriage + babies intrigue when you get to a *cough* certain age.

My best friend has an 18 year old and it is a constant source of amazement for us that she is the parent of an adult. It's only like yesterday I was picking her up from her cot and she in a little Winnie the Poo onesie.
