Amazed and delighted to see Everything Everywhere All At Once leading on 11

At the start it's one of the most confused, obtuse and impenetrable things I've ever seen. Could not get my head round it for the first hour or so, but the ending is so satisfying, so unique. I absolutely loved it

Everything Everywhere All At Once is class. Bonkers in the best way.

The Irish did well with Oscar nominations with Paul Mescal for Aftersun and AN CAILÍN CIÚIN (THE QUIET GIRL)

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - Irish Aris - 24-01-2023

Don't share the love for Everything Everywhere, I appreciate what they try to do, but couldn't get into it.

Great to see The Quiet Girl, a very unique film.

As for The Banshees, one of my favourite films this year, can't see it winning more than a couple of awards, possibly original screenplay and one of the technicals?

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - nothing - 05-02-2023

Had a double feature today - Banshees and Black Panther 2. Was actually refreshing having 2 movies that didn't have an awkward love story elbowed into them.

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - Irish Aris - 05-02-2023

I saw The Whale yesterday.
A quite grim and difficult film to watch. It's based on a play and it shows: the whole film takes place in the house of the main character.
I know Aronofsky likes these "dark" stories, but I found this to be particularly devastating and heartbreaking - probably because the main character comes across as a lovely, positive person and Brendan Fraser is fantastic in it (as is all the cast) and I sincerely hope he wins the Academy Award - not that it means a lot in itself, but as an acknowledgement of what went in his performance.
A good film overall, but not one that I would unconditionally recommend or rush to revisit. . .

That Air trailer looks properly terrible. Every scene of it is a cliché, lifted almost exactly from other various films

The "what do you call it", "Air Jordan", beat, "I don't know" is just painfully obvious

Shame, with that cat it could be great, but it just looked hackneyed

Cleaned up at the Screen Actors Guild awards. Best actress. Both supporting.

Only found out today that Ke Huy Quan was the kid from Temple of Doom and Goonies, love him even more now

Oscars tonight with Jimmy Kimmel hosting, come on the Irish

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - Irish Aris - 13-03-2023

I don't generally have time for awards anymore, be it Oscars, festivals etc. It's just some people's collective opinion of what they liked best (or in the case of the Oscars also who campaigned better).

And though I'm not a big fan of Everything Everywhere All At Once (found it only OK, but might see again at some point), it is quite refreshing to see such a film winning big.
But Cate Blanchett losing to Michelle Yeoh reminded me why I don't bother with awards anymore. I like Yeoh for her overall film appearances but to say that her performance was better than Blanchett's. . . just no.

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - jp liz v1 - 13-03-2023

I think EEAAO was just different, hard to categorise, out there, so about time The Academy took a chance changed it up

Delighted with Brendan Fraser's win and comeback after all he went through, probably the first metoo speaker out and not believed

Kimmel was a terrible host

I love how Paul Mescal is riding the fame wave, bringing his sick mam and mingling with everyone celebs and fans for selfies

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - ShaneU - 13-03-2023

Liked Everything everywhere but found it confusing and thought Banshees was better anyway

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - Necro - 13-03-2023

Am I the only one that thought Banshees wasn't a great movie 🤣

Watched John Wick 4. How is he the only person who can aim a gun properly, these are meant to be trained assassins hunting him and they are completely useless. Enjoyable movie despite this.

RE: Lights, Camera, Action! - nothing - 08-06-2023

Over the long weekend I watched Paint, Puss in Boots The Last Wish, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Werewolves Within, Dungeons and Dragons and Jurassic World Dominion.

Enjoyed them all, nice easy watches.

Have Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Batman, Morbius, Boss Baby 2, Glass Onion, Fantastic Beasts 3 Dumbledore and Everything Everywhere All At Once and Interstellar all ready to go for the next few weekends, most of my tv shows are done for the summer

Zack Snyder new Netflix film Rebel Moon, which will be two parts, two versions

A new iteration of the Man of Steel is on his way, as David Corenswet has been cast as Superman in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy. The actor will portray the world's most famous superhero in the upcoming franchise, leading the DC Universe into a new chapter of its history. Added to that, Rachel Brosnahan, star of The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, has been cast as Lois Lane, an intelligent journalist from the Daily Planet and Clark's love interest. The duo will bring their own voice to the characters, as they star in a story about Superman finding his place in a world where superheroes are already established.
