Songs you didn't know were covers - Kol - 10-08-2023

When I was researching for the latest tournament I found a song that I hadn't realised existed, I had only heard the cover before. This is inspiration for this thread, songs you didn't know were covers for a long time or songs you think most of us won't know are covers. You can also post covers we might not know about assuming the original is the more popular version. Here is mine to start it off

The Lover Speaks - No More "I Love You's"

and the more famous cover by Annie Lennox

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I only recently found out that Hey Joe wasn't originally Jimi Hendrix. According to Wikipedia

Quote:"Hey Joe" is an American song from the 1960s that has become a rock standard and has been performed in many musical styles by hundreds of different artists.

The authorship of the song has been contested, and different recordings have credited its writing to either Billy Roberts or Dino Valenti, or have listed it as a traditional song.

For a long time, I did not know that Hanging on the Telephone by Blondie was not the original version.

Here is the original:

I entered this song in one of the games before.
If I remember correctly, the category was "a song you didn't like at first but then grew on you".
I'm sure I said that I felt it was a bit hillybillyish for me when I first heard it, but I love Shinedown & it's one of my favourites now.

Didn't even know it was a cover until it was pointed out within that game.
